jaffaZ32 Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 I'm going to be running more power and i already have the famous 4th gear crunch. I havn't replaced the oil with MT-90 yet, will this be ok in a high hp car say 600+ ish. Or does this need replacing? and what are my options? I know OS Giken make a kit for the Zed and they offer different options for gearing, i got myself in a muddle and thought the higher ther gear the higher top end you will have but i downloaded the Quaife speed calculater and it's the other way around. I would ideally like a faster acceleration but a higher top end so thinking something like a closer 1-3 and a higher 5th for more top end, not that i intend doing it but it would just be really nice. i would love to hit the 200mph mark. jaffaZ32 Posted March 4, 2007 Author Posted March 4, 2007 Also adding to that would a closer gear ratio actually slow me down at some where like Santa Pod as i would have to change gears more times? Quote
jaffa Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 it not the gears it's the syncro's that are the problem, you'd get the same problem with a close ratio kit The ratio's on the TT are well suited to the power deliver, personally i'd like a 6 speed with 1-4 the same, 5th slightly shorter, and sixth way longer :) Quote
kirbz Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 PPG also do a gear kit as well, GTART are the uk suppliers unfortunatly unless your willing to spend the best part of £10k then your not gonna get a 6 speed gox which will havdle the power :( OS Giken is about the best gear kit, costs about £3k to have it fitted or about £1.5k and fit it yourself? jaffaZ32 Posted March 4, 2007 Author Posted March 4, 2007 Oh right so changing the internals isn't going to work then, so how do all the high powered Zeds currently resolve the problem? They surely can't all have 6 speed boxes. Quote

They surely can't all have 6 speed boxes. for some reason all the high power zeds in the usa all run oem manual box's and never have any issues??? MAC fitted a new latest spec box in his and his crunch's like a bitch?? you can get a holinger box via tomie who make a plate to make it fit to the engine but again its around £8k ish but you do get a 6 speed sequencial box ;) Mike Quote
jaffaZ32 Posted March 4, 2007 Author Posted March 4, 2007 So should i just fill it with Redline MT-90 and forget about it? As spending 8k on a new box isn't really within my budget lol. Quote

kirbz Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Mike, Do you get uprated syncros with the kit then? yes, the kit comes with uprated ones ;) its a completely different feel to the box!! feels miles better Mike Quote

Chris-kaz-300zx Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 I had my box re-built at TDI in Lakeside Thurrock Essex at a cost of £3K this totally cured any syncro problems and added a performance clutch no idea what it would cost to put the 6th gear in hope this helps in some small way! Quote
