Firstly I'd like to say that I'm not blaming Dipone for this at all as I know it came from his running car.

 

Anywho, I bought his "JD" chipped auto ECU with the thought that it would be "plug and play" but on plugging it in the car wouldn't start, not even a little cough, nothing. :confused: When he had the unfortunate luck of crashing his car, is there anything that could've happened to the ECU? It's not something I could imagine happening, but you never know.

 

Any thoughts?

Make sure u got the connector in nice and square, bolt it not too tight but not too loose either

Did you double double check that the long blue plug on the ECU is seated correctly ?

 

Have you opened the ECU and checked that the chip is still seated correctly ?

When fitting the connector don't just use the bolt to fit the plug in. Do the bolt a few turns, then push the outsides in, few turns, push the outsides etc... Also remove the opaque cover on the plug otherwise you can't push on the connector properly...

try what the guys above have said, any probs i will refund you. it didnt even enter my head that the crash could have damaged the ecu as i was going to keep the ecu for my next zed

I'll have a play around this morning (now it's stopped raining) and I'll let you know how it goes. Fingers crossed. :)

Already socketed :headvswal So i took the chip from Dipone's ecu and put it in mine and vice versa, Dipones ecu still didn't work but mine did :) The only thing is, it felt no different for having a JD chip in it :confused: :headvswal Admittedly I'm having a few probs getting the boost controller set up right but I thought I would at least get something noticable.

if your ecu is already socketed it ahas an aftermarket chip in it. the stock chip is soldered directly to the board. check it out it might be a very simular chip to the JD one you have just got.

you probably wont notice much power difference, but you may notice changes at idle, or when red-lining it, and also like you said a poorly-setup EBC can slow everything down a tad. sounds stupid but did you put the eprom in the right way around - IIRC there's a little indent thats supposed to point towards the centre of the ECU (im 70% sure its the centre, not the near corner!?!)

 

EDIT: as Hellraiser says, it more than likely had an aftermarket chip in anyways (even a JD :p )

i didnt notice much differance from stock, it was put in ready for a boost controller, decat etc but the redline was differant it risen 7100RPM i think. as said yours must have an aftermarket chip as they are soldered and when they are socketed these have to be removed and a new one put in

Deffo the right way round guys, the notch does point towards the center. Is there anyway I can check and see if it is a re-mapped chip? I'm guessing that if I show you a pic it won't help at all!!!!!!!!! Both chips were marked differently if that helps.

I had the car on the rollers last October with just the intake and de-cat exhaust and it made 306bhp which is why I didn't think it had been chipped. :headvswal My love of cars is fading again. :cry:

Generally speaking you shouldn't feel much difference just by changing the chip. but the new mapping will allow you to get more out of the car when you install an EBC or go for other mods...

OK, most definitely not one of mine and no distinguishing labels, so I doubt anyone will know.

Thats just a standard PROM, 27C256 with a speed of 150nS which from memory isn't the best for the ECU -100nS or faster was recommended. You should be able to get someone with a EPROM burner to read the contents and compare with other tunes to see how aggressive it was or wasn't. If it wasn't soldered in, it wasn't the original.
