I have 2 network cards in my pc.

one is my access to the network which has a router/firewall for internet acces. Certain sites have now been blocked and this forum could be another shortly. Which is a big ut oh.

So... on my other network card i have pluged in a second broadband connection which will allow me access to the whole web.

So how do i tell ie to use this card for web access but using my other card as normal to access the network?

Are there any proxy settings in your internet options

Tools

Internet Options

Connections Tab

Lan Settings button

Is there a proxy writting in, in the bottom box. If so try unticking it.

In the TCP/IP settings for your second card, change the Default Gateway and DNS Servers to the address of your broadband router.

The 2 networks will have to be on different subnets eg.

Network 192.168.0.1

Broadband 10.0.0.1

I thought that but I didn't think that would work as the broad band IP address can not be reached by the other card, if that does work it will also mean his Work data will be going out to the internet, losing connection to the work servers, work email etc.

Worth a try though.

Just asked some one and they said it can be done via the route command in dos. Dont know the details.

SRRAE i don't have a proxy and the option isn't ticked

ChrisC good idea but like SRRAE it wouldn't work as the 2 cards wouldn't talk to each other.

ooo... root command in dos?? i'll have a peak around on the net for some code, until that gets blocked too lol.

Sorry maybe I read you wrong.

I thought you'd put a second card in for internet access to get round your sites being blocked on the other connection.

Why do the cards need to "talk to each other"?

lol yeah sorry i just confussed things, your exactly right in what i wanted to do.

can't force the web to use the other card though. I want my bebo lol.

Well my first answer will work then  LOL

You would need to remove the default gateway and DNS server settings from your first card obviously... and make sure internet explorer isn't set to use a proxy just a direct connection ;)

If it's not working try rebooting your PC - changing stuff like this can often throw a wobbly and need a reboot.

Just tried that and i've got no internet now.

So i've changed the default gateway of the network card which is connected to the network and the meanie router to the default gateway of the nice friendly router same with the dns and alternative dns. but no luck.

it's in a different range too as you said.

main network *.*.0.*

my second router *.*.1.*

Surely it must have something doing the job of a proxy if its blocking certain sites? I suppose they could be blocking access to the ip addesses on the perimeter router or firewall but there's normally a proxy involved somewhere. You wont need the two interfaces to route to each other (ie 'talk' to one another) thats only if the pc is acting as router and passing traffic through. Windows isn't all that good with this sort of thing, so I'm not sure how you'd do it. What ChrisC says is the most likely way, but I'm not sure how windows deals with having two gateways to unspecified networks ie the internet. If you could tell it that your work network is out of that interface and everything else was out of the broadband then you'd be sorted.

It may work if you use (from dos/cmd):

route ADD (work networks ip) (work subnet mask) (gateway ip of work interface)

route ADD 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 (broadband gateway ip address)

The first command specifies the network of your work, and the second command tells it to go out of the broadband interface for everything else.

Only an idea though so don't take my word for it! I havn't touched windows for a year or two.

If you go into cmd and type 'route print' and post up the results (routing table), or pm that and your ip addresses and I may be able to see whats happening a little clearer.

You should just need the gateway and DNS set on your second card to point to the new friendly router and on the first card clear the gateway and DNS addresses.

Are you sure your new broadband is working & connected?

Do you have any firewall software on your PC? If so shut it down while you test things.

If you go to DOS prompt and type IPCONFIG /ALL it will list all the settings on your cards - might help us.

If all else fails call your IT manager and ask if he can help with bypassing their security

It's not a Poxy filter, it's a advanced content filter within the router.

yar the second router is working super duper lol. I tried setting the gateway and dns settings of the second router in the main network card but no luck. I done ipconfig to get settings of the second router.

haha It manager is my boss and he aint letting me have access through the firewall as "why should you get access and no one else" if i want it i have to do it this way or vpn into my pc at home which i don't fancy doing, besides my Dad will kick my arse for leaving it on all the time lol.
