we have had a very large no of customers coming into us with O2 sensor failures in the last week or so (on Mercedes), all indications seem to point to a problem with Tesco's fuel (at least here in Kent) although this has not yet been confirmed.

I have just been on the phone to Tradings Standards who confirm that they have had very large nos of complaints accross all manufacturers

please be aware as I know many people use Tescos 99RON fuel!!!

...hence why there's so little engine braking on a diesel....

 are you kidding me? 22:1 compression ratios give a healthy amount of engine braking ;) :mac1:

The rest of it is correct tho ;) so i will let you off with that :p

Oh yeah... diesels also run by compression ignition. Meaning the 22:1 comp. ratio heats the air/fuel mix to its flash point. I guess this is a small step away from pre ignition and detonation. So I reckon we throw away our skanky weak ass Zed pistons and fit diesel truck pistons instead. No fear of dett wrecking engines then on.

Engine braking is nothing compared to a petrol engine on over-run though ;)

Did you know that top fuel cars have burnt up the electrode on the plugs by half way up the track and actually rely on detonation to ignite the mixture for the rest of the run? ;)

Our works' Hilux RWD pickup has more engine braking than my zed ;) can lock the rear wheels on downchanges if you dont blip the throttle.

And top fuelers, yes, I think the plugs take 40 amps to fire, and because of that at the 1/8 mile they are all fooked, burnt out and dieseling LOL!!

Apparently, if they misfire once on one cylinder it doesnt exhaust the mixture properly and the next charge 'hydrolocks' (with nitro methanol) and bends the con rods. Madness

I work at a Landrover garage and we haven't replaced any more O2 sensors than normal on the V8's or the Freelander 1.8????

Ivan

it seems to be a SE issue

So..............OK for Z's then?- just Mercedes having problems?

AFAIK its affecting most makes, although on our cars it seems to be just late vehicles possibly with widebands.

Just seen this reported on the telly. Seems to be Tesco but Morrison was also mentioned, largely southeast orientated though. Hundreds of vehicles affected.

Asdas also!

must be thousands TBH! we are on about 30+ vehicles now just in our workshop!! :wack:

He said: "I think that we've got a corridor in east Anglia, London and the South East where somehow a dodgy batch of petrol has crept into the system."

That would explain it as they all use a common refinery- a relief for the rest of us but a real pain if your affected!

Conspiracy theory? Alqueda?

It sounds like this is exactly what has happened to my girlfriends MGTF. I was driving it on Saturday and I tried to pull away and it felt like I was pulling away in 3rd, coughed and spluttered for a bit and then drove OK. It's got progressively worse since then and is now in the garage.

Back to the expensive stuff for me then. :(

so, does that mean you can blame tesco's/morrisons for a blown engine or new turbos etc

i think you can see where i'm going with this.............

if you can, i'll be down tomorrow
