Hi folks, i would appreciate your help with this as i need to get the car in for a MOT.

I new the fog light wasn't working as it was very rusty, so i bought a new one, it's the awful brachet type that hangs from the bumper. Anyway, wired up the new one, went to check it and it wasn't working, at this point i also noticed that the drivers side stop lamp/red driving light also wasn't working (not sure whether it was working prior to this).

I have checked all the fuses i can find, under the bonnet and in the footwell, with no success. I have cleaned up the earth for the fog light, replaced suspect bulbs, checked the condition of the wiring in the boot, including the black box, and all looks fine.

Where next?

Any help would be appreciated,

Cheers

Use a volt meter and start tracing the live feed at the light fitting then back to the switch and fuse until you find it is live. When you find the last live point you can fix the fault. Most likely to be a connector gone bad.

I would say that you have two differant faults, as rear fogs on imports are (as you are probably aware) not factory fitted, so the wiring loom has nothing to do with each other. Or at least it shouldn't unless some dim-wit has bodged something together!!

As for the fog, as above you're going to have to start tracing.

As for the tail/stop lamp, do you have an indication on the dash (lower right side below peeedo) that is illuminated when the lights are on, or you brake?

If not, and your lamps are still not illuminated, then you have a fault here as well but this could simply be the dash indication bulb either blown or missing, but it could also be the 'Black' box attached to the right rear lamp assembly.

use the wiring diagram to help you trace what should be where >> http://300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=el&dir=&config=&refresh=&direction=forward&scale=0&cycle=off&slide=57&design=default&total=133

Have now checked the black box as per the maunal and it is ok, so i'm no further on with the tail light fault. I am in the process of checking all the connections on the fog light wiring, as the car is an import it has been wired in. The connection points aren't brilliant so i am rejoining them with connectors.

Could someone confirm, are the tail lights seperately fused and which fuse does which side please?

And thanks for the help so far.

Only one fuse bud.

So therefore as the left handside is working it must be the sensor, bad earth or nick ina wire.

I'll have another look tomorrow night.

thanks
