could be going to look at a new zed very soon, but it's been stood for a while, so what do i do 1st. comprssion test, Ecu test, but it's prob got flat battery so will be code55  . if i get the car started how quick will the codes come up if theres any fault codes at all.??

For the compression test do i do it with a cold engine, do i disconect the injectors before starting, and if so how do i do that?.

which other check can i do if any. It's manual if that make a diff not sure if theres a check for man gear box like you can do on the auto.

thanks graeme

Comp test- warm engine (normal running temp) all spark plugs out and throttle wide open while turning engine over.

Take out fuel pump fuse so no fuel going in while ignition on.

code 55 is good.

thanks rodders. yeah i no that a 55 is the code that we all look for, but after a flat battery i.e. same as disconnecting the battery to clear the memory how quick does the ecu test everything again to give a true code reading of any possible faults.

oh i'd do a O2 sensor check when running too.

I guess the fault would come up instantly!

As for O2 sensors, you would need a datascan, conZult. Dont know any other way of doing those. But if they are really faulty it should show an error code. But they can just be lazy but still registering ok to the ecu.

As for manual gearbox, just have to feel how smooth etc... is it.

p.s dont disconnect the injector plugs for comp test.

the O2 sensors can be tested via the ecu when the engine is running. by turning the screw on the ecu, can't remeber exactly how to do it but have done it on my auto before.

thanks for replies

Yup they can, but what im saying is the O2 sensors can be lazy (not working 100%) but the ecu wont pick it out as a fault, cause its not faulty, its just lazy. Not a major problem, just that they are a bitch to change!

right i'm with you now. Thanks, I try and see if anyone can spare some time with conZult to give it a proper check over. Timing etc as well.

Timing will only show what the ECU is looking for, not the actual base timing. Have to do a light gun on the crank for that.

Conzult or datascan would be good, can check a few other things on them.

thanks rodders for the info above, is there any more people can add

thanks
