Smoking on Tick over

Hey all,

I know many smoking issues have been covered recently but can't decide as to the best diagnosis on my TT Manual (i think & hope it's PCV valves).... Pls help.......

Having been on the road for about 20 mins this morning and having booted it a couple of times :D (no smoke) i hit a major traffic jam and noticed smoking from the exhausts  whilst sat there for 20 mins. I have seen this a couple of times before when sat in petrol stations  - BUT It only happens on tickover and when it been running a bit  .....

I should add this only occasionally happens not all the time  Even more frustrating!

Can you pls enlighten me and advise me oh knowledgeable ones

could be pcv's, or turbo seals, or valve stem oil seals, or hg.

I know it's a little simple but are you sure your not overfilled with oil ?????

Definatley not bud, am always careful that never happens and have double checked, but thanks for the reply and suggestion.

Replacing the PCV valves AND HOSES ( ;) ) may buy you quite a lot of time though before they finally give in ;) No need to buy the 5th hose right at the back of the passenger head, just the 4 main ones. Give MJP a call :)

Thanks again Andy

How long would it take me to do them and is it an easy enough job?

First time count on a couple of hours. Not too difficult really, some bits are a bit fiddly but nothing too bad. Hardest part is getting the new front hoses in, rest is pretty straight forward. Remember the golden rule with Z's - if its in the way remove it, don't waste your time trying to work round it you'll just end up taking longer ;)

Thanks Andy have spoken to Mike at MJP and will be ordering new hoses & valves..... Will let you know how i get on next weekend when i get round to doing them...

Thanks again for your help and advice

No probs at all mate thats what this place is for :) One thing to remember is that it can take up to 200 miles for the smoke to clear as any remaining oil is purged from the system ;)

Any probs fitting give me a shout :) Get some good LONG nosed pliers (you can buy sets of 3 with different angles - essential on a Z) and you shouldn't have any probems :) While you have the idle feed pipe off the passenger side give the idle valve inlet a damn good soaking with carb cleaner - then once all back together reset TPS voltage and base idle :)

Cheers,

Andy

Mine still smokes on idle at triffic lights for a while, blip the throttles for 5 - 10 seconds and it doesn't do it again until a further drive and stop at lights again Andy.

That sounds possibly like sticking PCV valves Paul....

And thats made me wonder if built up gunk in the plenum would run back into new valves and make them stick??? Certainly plausible...

CheerZ Andy, I'll check it out, if I can figutr out how to get the damn thing out LOL. I take it it's still gonna be the drivers side PCV ?

Drivers side PCV valve feeds passenger exhaust (X-flow intake)

If the drivers side is smoking yep :)
