The car i'm purchasing is going to have the doors looked at before I pick it up.

The car is a swb 300zx tt manual

The key fob only disarms or arms the alarm, you actually have to unlock and lock the car with the key (not sure if this is the same with all zeds?)

When you unlock the car with the key, open the door and shut it to again (whilst still outside the car) the door locks itself.

This happens for both passenger and drivers side doors.

Does anyone know why this would happen?

sounds like an alarm issue contact bob on here and he may have the answer!

Whats his username? "bob"?

The thing is, i'm not entirely sure what alarm the car has yet. I'll be picking it up sometime this week hopefully.

Is there like a child safety kind of lock on the front doors which stop people trying to open doors from the outside if you know what I mean.

Do imports come with an alarm and immob as std? What category is it if so?

I'd have to find out if its a different alarm system which has been installed.

Imports come with no standard security.

It will either be an alarm with no or a defective central locking interface, or it may be wired up a bit odd to get round a turbo timer etc.

Nowt to worry about id say and easily fixed.

a few alarms have an option that when you unlock the car via the remote

and don't enter within a certain time it will rearm and lock itself again

id say the way you have it is slightly dangerous,

ie unlock with key open door, throw your keys in start chatting to someone and shut the door if it then rearms itself your in the shite lol

whereas if the alarm was working properly and you opened the door and shut it wouldnt rearm

could be a faulty door lock/sensor ie wont lock via fob

or depending who wired it:( could be wired via the interior light for a voltage drop, check if the interior light is coming on when you open the door?

if not try moving the switch in the roof so it goes on and off when you open and close the door and see if the door still locks then?

(with your keys outside the car lol)

lol - on the day i took it for a test drive I asked for it to be started up, the garage owner started it, me and a mate popped the bonnet and i shut the door and went to look under the bonnet. Came back to the door and it was locked. ha

So the garage owner had to go home to get the spare key.

Doesnt sound like it's going to be a big problem to fix? Any auto-electrician should be able to do it simply?

No and the rear doors don't have any locks... or doors for that matter LOL

garage owner? should be getting him to sort it m8

as i say depending on who has fitted it could be a nightmare

can't understand why its locked iteslf after you started the car unless it has anti-hijack, ie on my alarm after you have started the car it locks the doors after a set period, and then when you stop/turn off it unlocks the doors

as i say the way you have it sounds dangerous, you maybe miles from anywhere get out to do something and leave the engine running shut the door and locks you out, MAYBE a bit clearer if you knew what alarm it was?

Surely if it happens to the drivers door as well it must be an alarm problem.

The drivers door dosen't come with an electric lock as standard so wouldn't be able to lock itself.

It may be prudent to just get a new alarm and rip the old one out, if the central locking is playing up then you do not know when the other parts of the alarm will fail?

Very true, plus as the car is an import I don't think any certificate for the alarm was included with it, so it might be worth getting a new one.
