Gearbox Problem

Hi this is my first post just bought a 300 zx 1990 auto , yesterday the car made a dinging noise ? now the car won't change any higher than 2nd ?

is it time for a new gearbox ?

    Welcome to the site mate.

     

    What speed were you doing when it made this noise as it may be the 120kmph noise.

    Sorry can't help with the gear box but i'm sure someone will be along that knows about them.

    Oww dear ! ...... new gear box then, i thought it may have been a selector problem or somthing the lever doesnt engage as well as it used to ,when i select D it can be moved through the other selctions without pressing the button on the lever , may this have anything to do with it ?
