Larger rolling radius therefore higher gearing, therefore better fuel consumption?

I recon so - although the speedo / odo won't show it as it's altered by the same amount too.

But... I guess big wheels may be wider and heavier which would be bad for fuel economy, as would be over gearing.

What do you think?

Possibly, but doubt it would make much difference. Going slower is generally the best way of getting better fuel consumption, wind resistance is your real enemy.

higher gearing would mean the car has to try harder though wouldn't it? like if your on a bike and you try to ride off in a higher gear? once you get going ur fine but you have to put more effort into pulling away?

God you lot are all so thick today......Don't drive the fooker that's the only way you can win.... ;)

Used to play around with gearing via rim sizes to trim the handling when i was racing karts in my hey day...

Wheel circumference does nothing for fuel consumption, (air pressure and jetting sorted this issue) but a thinner / taller wheel rim will give you slightly higher gearing and hence slightly higher top end...

A wider wheel will give better accel' and more lateral grip.

If your getting >20mpg in your Zed, then you aint driving it proper! :D

lol

I'm not expecting 40mpg. I'm just thinking 1-3% difference maybe? I wouldn't change wheels for this reason.

I like the fact I can take it easy on a long run and get near to 30mpg - or cane it and get less than 15.

Fit a boost controller to a TT. Leave the boost controller in 'off' mode (well a Greddy Profec IIB one) and it will let the turbos run at safety boost levels. I can an extra 10-15 miles to a tank doing that.

Turbos are great with a boost controller for varying economy and power when you really need it :)
