SE Chip/ECU saga, part 2

Jesus i hope this doesn't start a war......

Carrying on from my previous post about problems getting a chip done at SE, i promised to give an update and my findings of the chip, so is it any good ?????

I hate to say this, but yes it is.....

better than the JWT i had, how much, depends on the mods you have i reckon, BUT the chip could be gold plated and give me 1000bhp, all the shine and glory off it is wiped away by my dealings with them, yes they came through in the end, but christ ! what a job to get there.

On from the previous thread, my ecu had been there 10 days, i phoned up for progress and was told it would be in the post that day (friday), by monday afternoon nothing arrives, so a quick call to find out and i'm put straight on to the man himself, Peter, he tells me the ECU is fooked, which is not a problem cos i suspected it was, but neeeded the chip to help me find out, okay i say, i'll have another ECU there within 36hours, thanks to AndyZ, i did, phone the following thursday to see if alls done and i'm told the ECU has come back from guy who does the sockets and now waiting for pete to fit chip, hmm, strange having 1 guy do socket, send back unit, open it up again, remove inner board and PUSH in a chip, thought socket guy would do that, anyways, i'm told will be done that day and tested in morning before posting, so quick call friday mid afternoon, told, not quite ready yet, i plead with the guy to find the few minutes it takes to get the thing finished, cos now no car for more than 2 weeks, bank holiday in 3 days, i want to drive me car, told it should go out later on special Saturday delivery, following Tuesday at 12 i'm still waiting, now well pissed off, cars covered in bird shite, been scratched, cos i have been unable to get it away from main road and up to my house, 3.30pm ECU turns up and i can finally move me car, so in short, for me the difference between the chips was in no way worth all this being messed about with what pete calls "cummunication problems"

constant waiting, wrong info/porkies,time. sod it, can't wait till i get the funds for the Apexi jobbie, then 1 ecu and SE chip for sale, only 3 weeks to wait before posting after i get yer cheque, lol

p.s. please no fighting on this one, i only said it as it was !

Good to see that all is well mate, don't slate them too much. As I and other SE peeps know they are VERY busy bud! Don't take it to heart, I know about someone else who has got the SE chip today and is over the moon about it.

You have to appreciate that they are an engineering company and can't always deal with this kind of stuff when you want it.

Just be chuffed that you've got a new chip and ecu and are happy with it mate, love ya as ever! wink.gif

Can I just ask why you sent them an ECU which you knew was fucked?

I know they will have no way of testing an ECU without fitting it to a Z first and I'm sure they are too busy to test every ECU they are sent BEFORE chipping it. They probably socketed the thing then shit themselves to find it didn't work and assumed they had damaged the board on installation. Chances are someone spent 2 days trying to fix the thing before finding it was nothing to do with their chip.

If it was socketed elsewhere then the time involved in sorting this mess out would be even longer. The excuses were probably to give them time to diagnose the problem to the point of being absolutely certain it was not their work that caused the malfunction and having to tell you the bad news that your ECU is shagged.

Working in I.T I know from experience what it's like to be asked to sort out a problem when someone has not been entirely honest about the job in the first place...

Putting a new ROM in it would not sort it so were you hoping for a grands worth of ECU replacing for nowt?

Chris, going back to the earlier post and and my asking for help with ECU won't do a diag test, when i rang SE i asked for just a chip to be sent, because the ECU or existing chip had a fault, only way to find out was to put another chip in it, i put a standard ECU in, but that doesn't tell me if the chip or socketing done 6 weeks earlier was knackered or not, this i briefly explained when i called the very 1st time, had they just sent me the chip as asked, i would have known in about 72 hours, what then took them 10 days, you and i both know how long it takes to burn a chip off and insert it to a socket !! They test the new chipped ECU once completed on another car, which they did, when it showed fault, chip was removed and placed in another ECU to confirm it was alright and it was, so faulty ECU, sorted, that does not explain, sorry guv your ecu ain't arrived yet, royal mail tracking said it had, yep he's doing it now, next bloke says it is still in the box unopened, will be posted out later today, next day it's still there, will go out special delivery to reach you tomorrow saturday, i get it on Tuesday, so no i was not after a new ECU of them, just the bleedin thing chipped to eliminate 1 of the possible 2 things at fault, i last used them 3 years ago and stopped because of this kind of communication problem, just hoped after all this time, it had changed, guess i'm just the unlucky one with them !!!!!!!
