Hi guys,

I registered some time ago because I was very interested in purchasing a 300zx but I ended up purchasing a 200sx S14a instead.

The S14a was a nice car and I eventually sold it and i'm now back on the hunt for a 300zx again. This time i'll hopefully buy one and not get distracted by something else.

Has anyone gone from an S14 to a 300zx or vice versa? How did you find it? Much of a difference?

My S14 was running near enough 300bhp at stage 2 mods. Similar levels of torque.

The 200sx was chain driven...are the 300zx's chain or belt driven?

If purchasing a 300zx what "needs" to have been done to show its been well maintained?

I'll be having between £4-6.5k cash to spend on a zed, depending on exactly how much I wanna shell out and what kind of deal/car crops up.

What kind of power do the manual gearboxes withstand? same for the standard clutch?

I see the long wheel, short wheel base and standard 300zx cars available for sale...what's the advantage of having the different wheel bases and are there any different variations in engine performance on these cars?

Sorry for all the questions. Hope someone can answer.

Regards,

Chris (Midlands)

Dont worry about all that, how much ££££ you earn a year, lol.

standard clutch is around 300bhp.

I guess your on about the cam 'belt'...

A guess on box, 500bhp?

Short wheel base is spose to be the most desirable. i prefer the look of the LWB myself. LWB has 4 seats, if your really small and can fit in the back. SWB 2 seats.

No difference in engine, just TT's and NA's.

Some SWB have slicktops (no targa) more rigid, better handling, but I prefer the targas for summer!

and some swb's are full convertables ;)

So i'm guessing the zeds are big money pits? More so than the S14s?

I've driven a twin turbo supra before with an auto box... what's the auto boxes like in the 300zx's? Is manual 100% better? I've never owned an auto before and would prefer manual, although a lot seem to be auto for sale on here.

Ideally i'd want a black, manual, tt.

yep but still swb's

take it from that, that you prefer to be a swb ;)

Thanks, the guide was helpful.

Roughly how expensive is it to change the cambelt on a zed? Is it usually engine dropped out jobbie or can it be done with the engine in?

i am a swb. would like a tt just cannot afford to run one. so i'll stick to my reliable na. lol

Cam belt can be done in place, you should change things like the water pump to and the tension roller, it's about £400 for a zed garage to do

Chris theres a meet on sunday here

try get yourself along there should be all the type's of zed there. where in Shropshire are you there should be two of us going down from Shrewsbury.

welcome to tag along with us

Anyone?

I read a lot of auto box's fooking up, but then people come on here to ask questions when the fook up, not to say they are working.

But I have to say, it seems to be more auto than manual.

Anyone?

:D

i've got auto box and love it. have driven manual too. as long as it's got an extra cooler if it's an import should hold up to 450bhp no probs ;)

saying that when i had the power turned up my drive plate did give way,ie. ripped but that is a very very uncommon thing to happen.

try get to the meet as someone will take you for a spin im sure in either type. Modded or standard there should be some of each there with the list of names going so far

Very much appreciate the offer mate. Unfortunately I can't make it Sunday as i've got to start repairing my mrs write off.

I will however definately make an appearance to another meet should I get a zx which i'm sure I will pretty soon as it's looking promising.

If you fancy taking me out in yours or know anyone that will in the near future so I can see what they are generally like then please PM me. I'm only in Bridgnorth so only around 20 miles from Shrewsbury. :hyper:

I think the auto box is pretty good.

If you tune an import or drive fast for long periods you should get an extra oil cooler fitted.

manual is the way to go, i've had 2 manuals and an auto the auto was the first zed i owned, which i thought was quit impresive due to the fact i had never driven 1 before, but when i got a manual it was a different ball game, the performance of the auto isnt a patch on the manual, i would never go back to an auto. Most people have an auto because there is more of them about
