Managed to out-accelerate one of these fairly easily on the M6 the other day. It didn't seem that quick for a 350hp car. The driver eventually slowed down to 45mph to see what it was LOL! Do they lose a lot through the extra diff?

Ta. One of the lads in work has just bought an S4. It's very nice inside and out and I'd gladly swap it for my Zed, but I just had to tell him the M6 story :D

Well done mate!!

What sate of tune is your z?

Andy

ahhh but is it an RS4 or just an S4 he has? as theres a big big difference!

Either way though, good kill!! hehehe

I advise though that noone trys against a new RS6 .... those monsters are ballistic!!!

The one on the M6 was an RS-4, my mate's is an S4. I've got a lightweight flywheel, running up to 15 psi boost, JWT de-limited chip with increased rev limiter, an HKS induction kit and an unknown but wide Japanese performance exhaust. Nothing special really. Besides the boost increase, the flywheel was probably the best mod for acceleration tbh.

nice one dude, i wasnt implying you didnt, my car is of similar spec and i had a similar encounter when i picked it up on the M6 toll road against a new M3 CSL Bmw, the look on his face was worth the amount of fuel I went through!! hahaha!

I've heard about the M6 toll/race track LOL! An M3 was my only other kill last year, but that wasn't a CSL. Nice one!

The RS4 is running 420bhp standard from it's V8, as Hunniepie said he wasn't trying

OK mate, he undertook other cars at |30mph+ but hey, he wasn't trying

Here's the STOCK figures. There's only 34 lb-ft difference in stock torque (I think most of us agree that BHP is misleading so I always prefer to talk torque.) The RS-4 will lose some of this through its drivetrain and the Zed has been modified. The Z32 also weighs 1435Kg, the RS-4 weighs in at 1650Kg.

RS-4:-

Displacement cu in (cc): 254 (4163)

Power bhp (kW) at RPM: 420(323) / 7800

Torque lb-ft (Nm) at RPM: 317(430) / 5500

Redline at RPM: 8250

The 3.0 L (2960 cc) VG30DETT produces 280 hp and 283 ft.lb when mated with a 4 speed automatic transmission. When used with a 5spd manual transmission, it was rated at 300hp and 283tq.

Old RS4 then - newer ones are 450bhp and not to be messed with ;)

Similar mods and my baby can fly. With mine been a manual when the turbos come on full it’s pretty quick. The RS4 is under 5s to 60mph, I don’t think mines far off that.

Aww - for sure, or the RS6 avant/RS8 - very quick all rounders.

i had the pleasure of being wasted by an RS6 saloon on my way back from an otherwise succesful weekend at santa pod. Was a rolling straight race from about 40mph up to... well, a lot and it was like id stoped. really did leave me for dead, and what a noise they make. Beast. still prefer the Z.

vorsprung durch tecnik indeed.

four sprung pork teknic more like lol

Those panzer wagons really do move - the amazing thing is how they just pull, no major knee jerk acceleration just constant pull.... Thats torque for you :)

They are very high-revving engines compared to ours too. Has anyone on here safely exceeded the 8K rpm mark? If so, I think that would be a better way to go instead of all-out boost in narrow rev bands.

If what you lot say about the RS6 is true the one I left a 130 must of backed off, it was close (well I couldn't lose him) up to 120 and then I started to pull away, I thought he had ran out of umph

..)

Put it this way, I knew a guy with a 590bhp GTR 32 Skyline and he raced an RS6 off the lights and up some dual carrigeway and said it was very very close, he did have it but only just!

So that gives you an idea of the power required to be in the RS6/RS8 territory, they are very very impressive bits of kit. Id certainly have one!!

Yep, my boss has an RS6 estate and we have had a few little races.

His is definitely quicker but doesn't leave me standing.

It is nice to have over 870bhp outside the front of the office!

having had the luxury of test driving an rs4 as audi tried to tempt me with one to get me away from the audi tt i can say that they are an absolute monster. The new RS4 is better than the RS6 and as far asim aware there is no RS8...

I have only got astandard TT zed but i can say it would take some serious tuning to get it to compete with an RS4. They might not have a big difference in 0-60 but from 60 - 160+ these will compete with ferraris and porches. They are awesome.

But then at 60k for the top of the range you would hope so.

I wonder how difficult it is to remove the 155 limit on these cars as it's a piece of cake on the EPROM'd Zed ECU?
