well , i finally decided to get mi polished plenum and 555cc injectors fitted after fitting them car started rough lumpy ovefuelling(yes i put 555cc chip in tried 2 of em know goood one) all new coil packs and injector connectors fitted 0 psi on rest pressure.traced fault to bottom o ring not in right doooh!! and pissing fuel straight down cylinder ahh thats it.now 40 psi

plenum back on for 2nd time, car won't start ffs flooding like fook just about trying but never firing up, smelt severe petrol in breather/dumped oil &filter as it was contaminated badly.

still no good/left with plugs out overnight , still no go tries a litle then dead.

plenum off and spare fuel rail with injectors of a recent running zed engine.

still the same wtf??

ecu fault code 55/draine petrol as I had topped it up with gallon can and tried again.nope

thought put 555cc in with less duty cycle so will run leaner and eventually got car started, but smoking black neat fuel out stinging mi eyes and lumpy,

then tried letting idle dead, won't start again

checked all fuel dampers right way etc,

thought it might be afm but it should run without it to start/ also tried another ptu in desperation, all earths fitted, tried a cas unit and injectors work etc/duty cycle on cranking with data scan at@60

so now even I'm at a loss ......looks like a gallon of petrol and a match cos i;m fed up with it now

Try engine temp sender or its connection. The one screwed into the water pipe at the front of engine with two wires. If the resistance is high the ECU will think that the engine is very cold and inject loads of extra fuel.

remove spark plugs and clean them up, refit and remove fuel pump fuse rear OS of engine and crank for 10seconds or so

make sure you have a strong battery and refit fuel pump fuse turn over with no throttle, if it tries to start feather the throttle if it starts and cuts out and still gives a strong smell of fuel, then id iamgine you have a massive leak to the intake manifold o-ring or damaged injector o-ring, if the car was fine before you changed the plenum, injectors, then make sure everythig is plumbed back in ok, all vaccum hoses are connected

when you put the injector rail back to standard, did you swap the ECU back over?

fuel rail was complete with std injectors which gave me same sympton, tried it with 370cc chip and 555cc chip still same, i've run it with out fuel presure to clear flooding, engine data scan showed engine temp fine. i can see the piston tops through plug hole and it looks dry but still no joy, battery back on charge as its now flat again

it doens't make sense, also i have tested both fuel rail with fuel lines connected and rest pressure at 40 psi and holding and no leaks/and connected a inj wire and cranked engine with injector squirting into a glass\

it did cross mi mind they could be bigger than 555 thats why i put std fuel rail back on to make sure it would run and it didn't lol

Well if you did that with the 555 ECU I would imagine it would have started albeit on the lean side.

Have you done any intake mods - dual intake for example?

  • Author

nope std thats\why i tried 555cc map to make it leaner but it did try to start better

  • Author

nope i've got a working spare ecu that runs /tried that still same

Its sounding like a right bugger. I remember though that when I had flooding issues, getting the thing going again was a right bast@rd. I removed all plugs and cleaned / dried them. Cranked engine over without plugs for 30 seconds to clear excess fuel and even put a bit of compressed air down the plug holes with an extended piece of pipe. Replaced plugs and foot to the floor and then cranked - it burst into life. My issue was a load of extra fuel at idle caused by my mods. Even though you haven't done the dual intake, it does sound like things are still flooded. Things won't improve with a lower battery voltage either so the charging will help. Let me know how you go

... all new coil packs and injector connectors fitted ...

I take it you did this at the same time. Are these definitely soldered on the right way. Spark at every plug? Every injector firing?

cheers nzniggles, yeah its beating me for the moment, i did manage to get it running with the leaner 555 chip with stock injectors but it still was flooding fuel and smoking like a good en my eyes were watering it was that rich, coil pack connectors were all ok injectors were all working , so i'm running out of ideas the only thing i can think of is to borrow another fuel rail # injectors of my mate jaypsc as hes just fitted new 555 the other day so i deffo know his are okt his will be the 4 th time plenum of ffs, i've got it down to 15 minutes lmfao

15 mins is getting very quick :)

If you do have your standard injectors (370's) back on at some stage with a standard chip, pop the connector off the AFM and it goes into as limp mode (max RPM 2500) and ignores a few sensors. I used this to clean up my plugs and get some heat into the engine which dried things out.

If you are feeling rich, get one of these -

Plug in it in and program away :)

Also, send me your bin file/s if you like and I can check it/them out.

Make sure you put a decent description in the subject line so the spam filter doesn't ping it.

might sound daft but have you got braided fuel lines?

if so make sure you have the hoss going the right way round, one to regulator and one to damper if there round the wrong way car wont start! seen it a few times.

Like greg said check all the silly things after all that you have checked its likely to be something daft that we all do from time to time. Have you got access to a conzult? If so you can use the manual control of the main signals to turn down the injector duration untill you get it running smooth. Sounds like you would have to go over -50%. This is a great tuning tool

Or Datascan but this doesn't have as many features as Conzult, particularly in other areas like aircon, auto tranmission, etc. It's a motor only package.

I'll leave you in the hands of the many helpful chaps on this forum as I have to get some sleep. Good luck. zzzZZZ

cheers guys, yes i got datascan, and superafr which could help, I also checked fuel line even t the extend of connecting spare fuel rail and wired one injector and cranked engine to make sure they were the right way around even though i compared it to another zed, just in case my pipes at fuel tank had been put on wrong way

but no joy unless itsso badly flooded but when i got it runing with the 555cc chip on stock injectorsso i would run leaner duty cycle to help clear flooding it still seemed to run too rich, its certainly a strange one

richard

sorry to say this but id get the 370cc injectors back in and get it running on standard ecu before you go any further

Just had a think are you sure that the plugs are sparking under compression. Even though they spark in open air they may be shorting out in the cylinder. Try some new plugs or use a blowlamp to completely burn them dry then blow them out with dry compressed air.

  • Author

i,ve put the std injectors back in and std chip but still no joy i've trie another set ofplugs still no joy/ tried another cas/ptu all coil packs checked /even my mate from swindon jay is here and hes thinking same

i'm beginning to think a gallon of petrol and a match would cure it

richard

Maybe you swapped (injector) connectors around when replacing them ? (wild guess)

also check if the main blue ECU connector is placed/seated correctly (not too loose, not too tight)

All kinds of strange problems may occur if this connector is not making good contact with the ECU.

NB: once you get the car running change oil ASAP ! (or your engine will not last very long)

We've been at this all afternoon, so far we've tried.

Swapping PTU

Swapped MAF

Swapped CAS

Replaced plugs

Swapped to my stock injectors that I took from my working Z 2 days ago, had upper plenum off & turned CAS by hand to see injectors firing.

Had all coilpacks out connected to their own wires with plugs to see them firing ok.

Burnt a fresh chip & tried that in ECU

None of these made any difference, it did start trying to fire up when we disconnected the MAF which is weird.

Got me completly stumped tbh

Checked the TPS?

Does the electric sub fan come on when you turn the ignition on ?

You have a super AFR, is that the HKS one ? if so is it disconnected ? if it is have you fitted the loop wire in place thats attached to the main harness? if not disconnected, do so and fit the loop wire, should be 2 jack plugs and 1 plugs into the other.

Keep answering the questions and we'll get there :D
