Hi All,

Things were looking up as i got the major water leak sorted.. and now the gearbox has died.. question is.. Should I get a new autobox or should i just sell up the car.. i paid £1250 for the car and now im beginning to realise it was this for a reason and i been stitched up lol, the engine and turbos on the car are good as is the interior and it has a nice set of wheels on it.. question is where do i go from here? do i take it to a garage and get a new gearbox and get the leaks fixed.. which to be honest is going to cost me a lot more than what i paid for the car? or do i sell it and cut my losses and get something else?

Fook the auto off and go manual plenty traders/non traders offeing this, you WILL get offers but all depends what you wanna do, how much spare cash u got ?

hi m8 depends on how much you love driving it?? only you can decide that but depending on where you are, usualy there's someone nearby off this site to hav a look or give you a hand. hope this helps m8

I have no cash at the moment, but at the end of the month when i get paid i can obviously afford to spend some money on it, however is it going to be cost effective to fix it? or should i just get rid of it, i do want to keep her though as its given me the best driving experience ive had in my life!, manual is not an option for me as i do not have a manual licence

I am located in Worthing, West Sussex, if somebody who lives in the area would be willing to help me find a cheap autobox and fit it for me for a reasonable price i would most likely consider keeping it

Ah sh!t bud

you 'could' pick up a decet auto box for a couple hundred quid BUT you never know we autos so the bset bet would be a rebuild, prefrably a fast road rebuild.

I'm sure someone will be along to advise better than me

I have had severasl :duffer: :duffer: :duffer: as u can probaby see by my spelling LOL

I wouldn't say you got stitched up, you got what you paid for

Cars that price are usually only worth breaking.

To get it sorted properly is going to cost you at least £1000 I would say but you can't buy another car for that money so it's fix it or scrap it really :(

£1250 is peanuts for a Z32TT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If u cant afford a rebuild

& are on a budget source a box from a car thats been crashed, where u can verify the box was ok

Replace the stock oil cooler if its a jspec import at same time. Also replace rear crank oil seal, front & rear gearbox oil seals , this should sort out the leaks.

boxes that have stood around avoid like the plague, the lining flakes off, if not lubed by the oil & will cause failer soon after instal.

If u have a autobox standing fill her up to the top to avoid this.

Dont buy from scrappy ( just my experience ) if buying from a trader ask for a guarantee in writting

& good luck

Further to martins response...

Try legrath, I dont know if he still has the auto box but I know he is breaking 2 cars at the moment and is a top bloke so worth a shout.

AndyZ also has loads of parts and is another top bloke.

Check all the breaking cars in the for parts for sale section mate.

Thats excellent !!!

hi all, just an update, garage said box could be rebuilt for around 600-700, but if it needs a new one it will be 1500 including vat and labour, now i have the possibility to get hold of £5000 which has been left to me so i can sort out all the problems, have an engine out etc.. reckon i should go for this.. or just scrap it and get a new Z? i was thinking its better to fix it though as then i know what parts have been replaced.. if i was to get a new Z that may go wrong or be f*cked as well?

any thoughts/ideas?

Get a rebuilt/upgraded autobox

Or buy a car with everything already done from the club..............

only problem there sorting/modding it personally is half the fun/heartache

That 5k youve got would easily buy a very good Zed from a member on here.

Either break the Zed you have got now or sell it on for a loss. You may spending more cash getting that car right.

As for the quote you have been given SWZ is a lot cheaper to get the work done-it would probably be cheaper to get the car low loaded there and have the work doen by a specialist than a 'normal' garage

Just my 2 pence worth.

Depends mate. Whats the body like? Has it got any corrosion? If the shell is good with £5000 you can have a rebuilt engine and a all probs sorted!

Ivan

the shell on it is perfect, not a spot of rust, thats why im tempted to spend on it, if it was corroded i would just sell it off as spares, i am thinking also if i did sell it and buy another one then whos to say thats not going to go or be wrong.. i could get one for 5grand and a few months down the line the box could go.. or have another serious problem.. if i do spend on this one at least i will know the parts will be replaced?

If the shell is fine then i think your answering your own question mate.

It has to be spend the 5k on it. 4k on the engine and any other bits that need doing and keep the 1k for emergencys for when something goes wrong.

Give the traders a call and speak about want you want from the car then they can give you advice on how much and so on.

Or spend the 5k on turning the car black and it will just look amazing and sod whether the gears engage :D

or i could get this one for 5k.. what do you reckon?

STUNNING ZX

or i could get this one for 5k.. what do you reckon?

STUNNING ZX

Thats a hard one for me to answer mate as i love the look of that car and have posted up about it before. Would need going over but "seems" ok as long as the paperwork is kosher.

But as you said above... would you be 100% happy spending your whole budget on it not knowing for sure what the engine condition is in and leaving you without a penny?

In short that car is black, with black tinted windows and black wheels. They aint hard/exspensive mods to do yourself. If you could find a black car the rest would be easy.

Ive pestered nearly everyone on the forum for advice about what car i should buy and what i should do but ive found that at the end of the day.... Its your car, it will be on your drive and you will be paying for it so a large portion of it is down to you mate.

Hope that hasnt confused you even more :)

One last bit of info... If i was you unless you find an amazing car elsewhere...

Buy one of here as you can see its info, you will have the history pretty much on this forum and there will be a load of people who will know the car so you will allways have everything you need to know right here.

Oh and subscibe here as it opens up a whole new world, Proberbably the best £20 you could spend :)

You could build your car out of the bits here and it has the gearbox :)

my car is black :-)

Also i have phoned the garage and told them to go ahead on the car and do all that is necessary to restore it to its former glory.. im going to get them to do an engine out, replace all the pipes that look dodgey, fix the oil leak and water leaks and to replace the box.. i might even get a new headgasket done just to be on the safe side..

I guess you are right.. i could buy a new one but it could be a potential lemon, stuff may go seriously wrong with it after spending say £3000 or more buying the car.. sorting mine out gives me piece of mind in knowing what has been fixed and it shouldnt go wrong for the forseeable future.. i did only pay £1250 for it true.. but i don't think that I've lost out money on it.. as after the repair bill i would have spend the same price on a zed that is decent.. if you get what i mean

If you're getting all that done you'd be better at a specialists or the bill could soon turn silly.

Don't bother with the head gasket it's very rare they fail and would cost a packet to do.

Would be worth taking the plenum off and doing a water bypass while the engine is out - it removes loads of water pipes that can fail.

I'd get a braided fuel line kit from Smithy while you're at it.

Good luck!

She's already had a plenum bypass which I did myself after much difficulty!, I would have gone to a specialist however most of them are too far away and did not wish to transport the car. The garage i am using is just round the corner from my house and they have a good reputation and are highly recommended by some friends of mine
