Massive Difference!!!!!

Can you just change the fronts or is it worth doing the back too????

Most do just change the fronts, but the brembos I got were like new and my standard callipers were looking scaby so went for the lot changing.

Ferodo DS range if you can get them

I'm in the process of doing the rears as well, and courtesy of Smithy I have a nice set of Porterfield pads to go on all round.

Ferodo DS range if you can get them

Yep Ferodo DS or Mintex 1155 compound.

I don't like the portefield and they make a lot more dust than either of the above.

Yep well worth doing. Even managed to set the ABS off.

Will be getting the rears done soon.

The problem you will have is getting the calipers. They don't come along very often and they go for lots of money usually. Try to make sure that they come with the bolts as they are different to the nissan ones and cost around £50 for a full set with washers.

I also went for new disks and pads but couldn't tell you what sort they were. Found a guy on the skyline forum that did them. Full set of front and back discs and pads for £450.

I think Wozzer and J the gun are trying to get into fitting these. Worth a word with them to see if they have sorted any out yet.

Good luck with it.

 OMFG we actually agree on something LMAO ;)

Looked on the ferodo website http://www.ferodo.co.uk and it seems they no longer do the DS range for the Skylines. Maybe worth giving them a call. Shame because these are the BEST pads I have EVER used. Awesome cold stopping power which just gets better with heat and virtually no dust. The perfect brake pad! Tried to make them fade on several occasions but it never happened, they just got better and better. One thing I did manage though was to boil the brake fluid and had NO brakes the next day LOL :D

My mate at Deemon theives recons they can still get them and the Mintex 1155's which are identical in feel lack of fade and dust are still available if the DS have been discontinuded..

PS the Ferrodo DS 2500 are the ones you want ;) and I agree with the above, awesome from cold, and not too much dust

Yep comfirmed they still do the DS 2500's for the skyline, but they no longer do the 1155 compound for the fronts only rears. The 1140 is too soft and the 1160 is usless untill you get heat into them then there nose bleed quality.

Do the Brembo 340mm discs for the skyline fit staight into the R33 calipers or do i need a spacer?

I fitted r34 calipers on my old zed. The difference was very noticable. If I get another zed I reckon I'd make it my first mod. Its of more worth than anything else as the Zed is fast anyhow, it just suffers from awful brake fade. Despite what some people say though I don't think the stock brakes have a major problem actually stopping the car (albeit not as quickly as the brembos), they just fade bad when ragged hard. I'm sure a lot of the problem is that the average zed needs a brake fluid service and probably a caliper seal overhaul?

If you search my posts I put a load of pictures up as I was doing it. Don't bother buying second hand discs and pads with them as you'll be wasting your cash. Chances are if a skyline owner is uprating there brakes its because they track the car hard so they will be well used and possibly warped.

It's possible i can get hold of the R34 brakes for my upgrade.

I'm also finding some issue with fitting the bolts holding them in?

Do i need to get hold of different bolts or do i need to tap out bigger threads??????

Cheers

You need the Skyline bolts and they just go straight on :)

I got mine with the calipers so dead easy.

Cheers Chris did you notice quite a difference with the R34 calipers over the standard set up????

R34 calipers have bigger bolts so the hubs will need drilling out. R33 direct bolt on with R33 bolts :)

Andy hi, just been on the Skyline Owners Club website and they reckon the R33 and R34 calipers are in fact the same the only difference is the paint colour????

Have you or Chris got 33's or 34's???

Cheers
