i have just prepared an old set of clusters i have for an led conversion, all i need to do now is sort out an led circuit board with the appropriate mcd leds.

it is relatively simple to do and i intend on doing it to my 99spec lights, however, dismantling and chopping up 280 quids worth of goods will make me very nervous!

once i have it finished and i am satisfied with the final product, i will consider making some more for the club. if any1 can help with the research of legal led mcd brightness that would be grand :)

nominate 1 person to buy them, send em to me and il mass produce them :)

:nono:

Have to say i can't condone this sort of thing.

It's the same as someone buying a genuine body-kit only to make moulds from and flog the copies on eBay.

(And we wonder why it's so hard to get decent stuff for these cars!)

I know I'm almost an official 'old fart' now but I still don't think it's right.

All IMHO of course and nothing personal meant by it.

Just experiment with adjustable resistance. Can you pm me pics of your build so far? I'd be interested in seeing and offering up ideas.

I know what you mean it's a bit like the twinz bumper, i gave up eventually trying to get one. I didn't really agree with the idea of moulding one off an original and profiting off it which is why i was a bit more keen to make one from scratch of our own design, the 300zx.co.uk bumper :D

So long as they are not copyright I can't see any problem with copying them. I would certainly be interested in a set from anywhere at a reasonable price. They are only at £87 at the moment but I wonder what they will finish at in 4 days time.

Like many of you, I have been watching from the sidelines without bidding as I don't want to push the price up. I spotted them before this thread opened and cursed a little when it got all this publicity.

BTW I think they're a 'one-off' as he says they have 'a small scratch'.

i think the concept is superb, and with them on at night they will look amazing. but i do agree that during the day they look like 'Lexus' rear lights and a bit chavvy. all IMO of course! if you want them, go for it!!

They are covered by Intellectual Property Rights.

Copyright protection is automatic as soon as there is a record in any form of the material that's been created.

They will also be covered by Unregistered Design Rights which apply for ten years.

The name may or may not be Trade Marked, but I doubt if they have a Uk patent as these are incredibly expensive and pointless for such a product that would sell relatively few.

You can not 'steal' the idea as such because you could go to Maplin and buy a bag of LED's and get on with a DIY light.

SO WHY HASN'T ANYONE BOTHERED SO FAR?

(Now, where are my chill-pills?)

I'll just go ahead and make my own with the multifunction rear lights i was talking about before. But deffo going for the 99 spec rears with red top and clear base

Right guys, here is the long awaited reply for you all to see!!

Make of it what you will!

Hello,

I can not at present quote for bulk orders.

Due to the nature of 300ZX after-market parts (i.e. very low volume) these units are practically made to order so I would not expect a purchase of multiple units to necessarily receive a worthwhile discount relative to the lead-time required.

I will ask the supplier about a discount but I do not want to raise anyone's expectations beyond what I have told you. I see no merit in being anything but honest to potential customers.

What I do know is I have a solid arrangement with the supplier and that these lights will only be sold in the UK through Zed-bitz.

I hope you consider bidding and the best of luck.

Regards,

Zed-bitz.

"The UK supplier"????

That sounds good, to be honest I would prefer to keep the red lense anyway as I just can't seem to get my head round the red blob (reflector) in the middle of the white lense!! Red and white for me I think anyway and even better if it's done by a forum member, too many bidders on ebay push the prices up.

thats a fair point.

tbh i dont really need them as i was only being lazy to find out what brightness leds need to be used to make them road legal as iv already essentially built the cluster, i just need to solder the leds in. nevertheless the ball has got rolling and its gonna be trial and error from here, iv taken the test cluster into the avionics workshop at work to test lots of different leds until i get the desired finish.

i personally love the design of the standard z clusters but the light distribution across the diffuser lets it down and so i think this is another subtle mod to make that love or hate rear end look nice and crisp.

So who won them then?

Who is ZED300X ????

Not me unfortunately.

Darrell

lol, not me. Not spending any more money over 100 today after spending 500 on me new wheels + 56 quid on locking nuts, a breaker bar and a 21mm socket today :) lol

They went for £148 in the end or there abouts which i think is a top price!!!

If anyone is making them or a group buy even at that price i'm still very interested!

Cheers
