You can do 'rope ladder' climbing in the Alps. Basically steel cables and ladders that you clip yourself to with 2 lengths of rope called Cows Tails. Clip and unclip as you go, simple! Called Kletersteig (sp) in Austria.

Were originally put up in WW2 to help the Allied soldiers escape over the mountains to Italy. There's your Saturday night fact!
