morning guys,

from bad to worse this morning - My zx is dead - I still need a new gearbox - and now my 89 VW Polo runaround is dying too.

Battery is flat as a fart, put the jump leads on it, start her up and all is well.

Come to it a few hours later and it wont start again.

The lights etc seem to be fine, so would I be right in thinking that my Battery is knackered?

Before you ask :p - I know nothing is left on that could cause the drain....

wouldnt that affect the lights though, if it was an altenator problem ?

Does your battery light come on? If yes....sounds like alternator or bad earth....if no, it'll the battery. Being an old car, have a look at the earth straps and see what state they are in. Also give the battery terminals a good clean.

But sounds more like the battery to me.

car is so old and poo it has no lights at all - the car will attempt to turn over one, but can make a full rotation. Batt is flat. i would imagine New battery and terminal clean is the way to go. thanks peeps.

Put a multimetre across the battery when engine is running, if the batts flat you should be reading up in the 14v range, if not then altinater could be fubar
