Hi have not been able to start car (have tried all sorts!!) bought car cheap - possible head gasket failure not starting no signs of gasket failure whatsoever!

So have tried everything else to start, however just tried piston No 1 and No 2 both appear to register nothing ( could be tester hasent been used for 2 years) but if its true no comp on either side?? seems odd to me or does anyone know of a potential problem that affects both sides of the V before I start stripping down (after checking the other 4 plugs of course)

cant register nothing even if head gasket gone and badly worn bores it will register something unless you got no pistons in there must be the tester did you try it on any other cylinders?

Thanks mate seems odd to me too cam belt appears to be ok but just had a quick look throiugh top cover with engine rotating only other thing i can think of is valves? will try other cylinders tomorrow and check my comp tester on other car first i think!! thanks was just after some ideas

No, like i said started with looking for signs of head gaskert as the chap said it overheated weve had 3 of these before and i know there pretty heat tolerant, so anyway no signs found went through all elecs, new plugs changed PTU all sparks OK when plugs out petrol seems ok on injectors but still wont fire up not even a hint of a spark! So thought id try compression. Begining to thing tools dead though! Sent a e-mail to SWZ to see if they can come and have a look but havent heard yet so still trying in the meantime

even with head gasket gone it will give some hint of firing up it will try to build compression before starting, timing could be out if belt slipped

Ta think ill take a proper look at that tomorrow to save me going round in circles you know what its like you think your going mad and missing the obvious!!!

Wish you'd told us all the details in the first place instead of saying you'd just chaged the plugs and it wouldn't start

These cars are not heat tolerant at all - by the time the gauge says its getting hot its already cooked. Maybe its dropped the valve seats it got so hot? Valves may have jammed in their guides. Anything could have happened... Leak down test next...

heat tolerant LMAO

Yes ali heads love heat

mine over heated and was ok after, had no problems since

aghh but theres people who carry on driving unawair until they melt the coilpacks in to the heads so you can no longer remove them  seen that on a couple of occasions :(

i did stop straight away when i smelt it getting hot and sounding like a bag of marbels with detting, stock gauge as usual read normal lol
