Any good ?Moving house on friday and i have cable but my new house doesn't.My supplier (telewest) is merging with virgin so i will get a discount.Unlimited downloads up to 8 meg and phone with free evening and weekend calls £19.99.What do you think ?Any other suggestions ? :)

good price, i've got tv, broadband and telephone (free evenings and weekends) and costs me about £60 a month so i would say go for it. not heard nothing bout getting together with virgin tho...

unlimited 8mb for 20 quid is going to have some strong traffic shaping on it. If you don't know what that is then don't worry about it though.

Just had a bit of a read up.The unlimited package i want is actually restricted to 40 gig, so it's not actually unlimited :headvswal Go over 40 gig and you will get a letter :smash: This is a good deal for your average man on the street but i download films and games and 40 gig is about a weeks worth of downloads if that. :x: Any body got any other suggestions i can look in to. :)

"i know telewest merged with ntl but havent heard about virgin getting in on it too".

Oh yeah forgot to say telewest join with virgin next month.

Yeah NTL and Telewest are being taken over by Virgin so in a few months they say you'll have one low monthly payment for TV, Internet, Phone and Mobile :)

Never had a problem with my NTL cable and it's very fast.

NTL/Virgin are bringing out their equivalent of Sky+/Tivo very soon too :)

If it's any good I'll cancel my Sky+ and pay a lot less all round.

Its already out. Telewest offer TV Drive, which is a HD verson of cable, but it can record 2 channels in High Def, and you can watch a 3rd. Also there is no upfront price for the top box.

I love my cable internet. Its a 4mb connection and 99.9% of the time I get 4mb connection. No use for microfilters, phone lines, and having to be next door to an exchange to get full speed. Unfortunatly its a little expensive for what you get now, but hopefully with ADSL2 coming and Virgin taking over, they will either up the speed or down the cost.

i get a bit of trouble with my broadband..been an ongoing problem really. got new laptop yesterday and still keep getting kicked off internet! had the problem since i took it out, had so many different answers, do this do that must be virus etc,etc... discover was usb lead myself so changed that had engineer out kept old lead in he changed something on pc and said would be fine now, which it was...til got my new laptop. so bearing in mind new laptop, new lead so shouldnt have problem, now worse than ever!! have to pull usb lead out then seems fine for a while. they have now said to download drivers, so gona try that and if still get problems they are gona get it,lol. the money i pay expect tip top internet. will keep u all posted.

If your modem can use Ethernet, use that.

I konw a lot of people who had your problem and using Ethernet instead of USB sorted the problem.

dont really know much about it all to be honest, but i will look into it. thanks

NTL's version isn't out yet so I'm still waiting.

Like you say, cable speeds tend to be true speeds which you never really get from ADSL phone lines.

My 4mb connection is very quick so I've not bothered upgrading to the full 10mb service.

It's not the cheapest but is definately worth a couple of quid more for what you actually get.

I heard rhumours the speed is going up quite a bit but they were also talking about a basic package of TV, phone, internet and mobile with 300 mins and 300 texts for about 30 quid a month i think.

well after dave had irrate chat with a foreign bloke from telewest, finally i spoke to a english bloke (not being racist, just he couldnt understand anything he was saying)and now it seems after 2 yrs of being with them and having same problem thru out, now i have decent laptop there answer is to get an ethernet cable,(thanks srrae for info)which i must say they are willin to give me refund for...after that if still problem they will hold there hands up...will keep u posted
