Many thanks to Jason for permision to post up the following invite

With it being the Z Clubs 30th birthday this year we have been offered the chance of doing some parade laps behind a pace car at Silverstone at a new Car Show on the 3rd of June 2007

One of the aims is to beat the 108 Skylines that took to the track last year and with this in mind I aim testing the water to see what responce there would be from Z Owners and will be inviting owners from the other Z Clubs to take part.

The idea proposed is to do the laps with the 240s in the front followed by the 260s,280s,z31s,z32s and the 350s at the rear

Entrance to the show will be £12.50 a person and the parade laps will be free

and we can also have a Z area to park our cars in.

Also there is Z only tracktime available at £20 awaiting confirmation on this price

Need owners interested to post up names to gauge responce

I will be speaking to the organisers in the next few days to get more information so watch this space

Steve,

I see in the e-mail from John, he quotes speeds upto 100mph! I was under the impression that this was to be a parade, ala like the Skyline one last year?

I know that a lot of people will back out if this sort of speed is to be tried for, me included. That many cars on the circuit, most of which are total novices, trying for upto 100mph is an accident just waiting to happen!

I'm sure it must be a mistake?!

Dave

Hi Steve - You replied to the above post saying:-

"Would have thought that was a typo and will check it with him this week"

But no reply has yet appeared on this thread. As it is a very important matter (I, for one, would have to withdraw from the parade if 100mph is planned) would you please clarify the full parade details so we all know what to expect.

Cheers - Dave

I have mailed Fuggles re reply and waiting on his responce

I know for a fact that the parade laps are behind a a RAC MSA Pace Car with a driver and an observer on board.

The top speed is down the main pit straight which is over half a mile long. There will be plenty of braking distance before you get to the turn. I for one tend to do 140mph along that straight so it's hardly excessive. The Subarus when we did the same thing did over 100mph on that section. However, if you wish we can easily lower the speed for you and make sure the control car drives a lot slower :)

140mph for me IS excessive! I am not a racing driver and I have more respect for my Zed than to push it to speeds I would never do on public roads.

With over 100 cars expected in the parade, many with inexperienced drivers at the wheel, I consider it foolhardy to attempt to reach high speeds. This is a parade to show the spectators what beautiful cars the Zeds are, it is NOT a race to see who can go the fastest.

I'm sure there will be many that will disagree with my concerns but if you want to race then you should organise a seperate track event for those who want to illustrate their Zed's speed.

KEEP THE PARADE AS A PARADE, NOT A TRACK RACING EVENT, ELSE I AM SURE YOU WILL LOSE MANY PARTICIPANTS.

Sincerely - Dave

PS - EDIT - Isn't there supposed to be track time available for Zeds only for £20, shouldn't that time be spent for speeding, NOT the parade?

Dave, no one is saying 140mph will be done on the parade laps and fuggles was using it as an example of what he would do on a trackday and trying to point out how safe the straight is

I doubt very much that 100mph will be done on the pit straight as it is regulated by the pace car

As you are also a Z Club member why not phone me on the number in the magazine tommorrow night or I will ring you on your number on your booking form tomorrow night and we can discuss rather than carry out a prolonged exchange of views on line

I don't consider two posts from me is 'a prolonged exchange of views', all I am asking is a simple question."at what maximum speed is the parade lap going to be run?" Just provide the answer to this simple question then we can each make up our own minds as to whether or not to attend the parade.

I am becoming concerned that nobody seems to want to answer this simple question.

Dave

hell yeah please add me to the list!!

i first saw this on zclub but to keep things simple with you mr burns i will pay up with the 300zx club, ps thanks for your pm earlier.

300zx tt z32

Hi Dave,

Your "simple question" has been answered on numerous occasions. It's just that your questions have not got the response you wanted. It has not been ignored. However I will attempt to address it again for you.

100mph is the top speed we used for the Subarus. I mention this because this is what was done for their parade lap and caused no harm or concern whatsoever and not one complaint was received before nor afterwards

140mph is the sort of speeds I typically reach along this section of track. I mention this to give you an indication that your cars will be travelling well within what is easily achievable and that there is still plenty of braking room at 40% above the speeds we are looking at for you.

At a recent Parade lap for Skylines we were restricted on speed because of noise limits. I mention this because the result was a series of complaints from people that it was not quick enough and seemed a lot of effort on their part for minimal reward.

To clarify one point. Racing is not allowed on track days but driving at high speed is. We do have track time and plenty of Z-Club and other Zed owners have booked time and will be doing considerably higher speeds than the proposed TOP SPEED for the parade lap. They have booked Track Time and not Racing.

As I have always stated, we will take a view on the day as to the top speed. For example inclement weather may play a part as might any prior incident on track.

So far we have had a significant number of people add their name to the list and a large proportion of them have sent in payment. Your coment "I AM SURE YOU WILL LOSE MANY PARTICIPANTS" is unfounded as you are the only one to have issue with this and have raised this repetedly despite us having answered it on several occasions. However we do recognise that if there is a clamour of disagreement we will address the issue. Until then one person out of 170+ does not suggest that your view is in the majority. If this changes and there is disagreement with the views of the organisers we are more than happy to change the event.

At the end of the day we want to arrange a great event for all of you to celebrate the Z-Club's 30th anniversary. We are here only to serve you and provide the best and most enjoyable experience we can. If we are doing something wrong we are more than happy to address this and will do so. However, feedback so far would suggest the proposal we have presented to everyone is almost universally accepted.

Thank you

One thing that has not been stated is that on the parade laps there will NOT be any overtaking under any circumstances and also ALL drivers must attend the drivers briefing and REGISTER that they have attended it otherwise they will not be allowed on the laps under any circumstances

Hi Fuggles - Thankyou for your detailed reply.

I now understand that it is intended the parade will be at a top speed of 100mph, so we can now make our individual decisions as to whether to join the parade or not.

Cheers - Dave

and have raised this repetedly despite us having answered it on several occasions.

I have raised this matter ONCE, on 21st February - if my question had been answered unambiguously that would have been the end of the matter.

Cheers - Dave

Fuggles, Z32 Dave is NOT the only one to mention this, I've already brought it up!

And i think you could of just responded more politely (ie; answering the concern without sarcasm) in the first place.

This was billed as a parade, not a HIGH SPEED parade. Maybe a lot of the 'other' participants, who have not raised their concern, don't know what 'speed' will be attained.

And as for leaving it down to the day, when everyone would have already payed up, is extremely UN-PROFESSIONAL of the organisers (excluding the weather conditions obviously) where people wouldn't want to back out because of time and money already spent!

I think if you are asking people to pay money up-front, you should run it in a far more professional way, and answer any questions, no matter how trivial YOU think they may be, in the same said professional way!

The fact that 170 haven't raised a concern, and only one has (actually two) makes NO difference, you should respond accordingly.

TBH i'd be a little concerned at reaching 100mph in a large group. imagine everyone trying to keep in 'line' (or whatever formation it will be in). id have thought 60 tops IMO. leave the high-speed stuff to those that want the individual track time. the last thing we want is people backing out because of speed concerns, when the one thing we are trying to achieve is as many Zs on track at the same time as possible.
