1st- Alloys. What are the best dimensions for both 17 & 18" alloys for the Zed? Reason I ask is with regards to a previous thread I seen regarding back tyres not fitting on the rear.(spotted ones I like but are 17x7 17x8 and 18x8)

2nd- May seem trivial but does anyone know which of these 3 manuals (Haynes, HP, Chilton) is best regarding information and diagrams as I need to order one?

Cheers

TBH, an 8" front with either 8.5 or 9" rear suits the Zed well ( most have 8.5" i would guess) 7in wide is deffo too small bud.

As for the manuals, haynes certainly make no reference to the Z32 and i much doubt the other 2 do either am afraid, though i personally ain't heard of the other 2 :p

My old chrome alloys were 18 x 8 front and 18 x 9.5 rear, if that's any help to you.

As for manuals....... Haynes don't make one for the Z32, HP? don't know that one, and the Chilton is a US published book, which are supposed to be quite good although I've never read/seen one.

But what info do you require? The on-line service manual is always available (http://300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi) and I've got two downloaded US versions of the manual as well (1990 & 1994) If it's part numbers you want there are loads of CD Parts Lits on offer on eBay all the time.

Well I have a few things that need doing and I don't know my way around an engine that well.

>I need to replace the plastic trim below the windscreen before the engine as it's cracked.

>Disconnect the police siren it has for a horn (american style)

>Check the fuel lines as I don't thinkI have checked them properly (smell on start up after the turbo timer as been used)

and other bits and pieces. I did not know there was an online service manual so thanks for that.

As for alloys what are they like? I had my heart set on these OZ racing 35 anniv edition and would have gone well on car -love the logo and very appropriate I think (1971 logo kinda like (Z) in the center) but don't think they make them for the Nissan...shame

No, sorry bud, my old alloys are well gone now.

Replacing the plastic trim, scuttle panel, is a fairly easy job. Make sure you have all the new captive plastic screw/nuts, as this makes the whole job a lot easier. Phillips screwdriver a pair of pliers and a socket wrench with a 13mm (I think) socket on should be all you need to do the job.

Basically all you need to do is remove the wiper arms and unscrew the plastic screws (use the pliers to pull the captive part out) Chuck the old bit in the bin, along with the old screws/nuts and fit new one/s. Align wipers back up and you're done.

Horn, depending where it's actually fitted depends how much you'll have to take off. But basically it's a un-do and remove job. Refitting new ones depends on what you buy. I just got a pair of twin horns from halfords that do the job nicely for me. All i had to do was make up a negative wire for each of them. job done.

Fuel lines.... Tighten them isnt a problem, but if you need to remove them, then you'll need to relieve the fuel line pressure first. Disconnect the fuel pump relay, undo fuel cap and start car until it stalls. Then the fuel pressure is full dispersed! Don't forget to reconnect the relay and pt the cap back on.

i know that car, you bought it from stephen pearson, as soon as you said police siren it all fell into place lol

Most important for wheel fitment is the offset, as quite a few different wheel sizes can be used, as long as the offset is correct ...

Offsets arnt a major problem with zeds unless you go - offset .I run 9"x 17" on the front with a +10 offset and a 9"x17" on the rear with a +15 offset .They come right out to the edge of the arches ive a slight roll on the back and no rubing.Zeds as standard the wheels sit too far in the arches so dont be scared of playing with lower offsets :)

Cheers Dave I will look into this early nest week.

Stellaz you must get around a bit to know that. I had to check my V5 and you are correct. I brought it from the garage he works at near Sacriston.

Apparently he got a 200 as needed more back seat space ;)

As for the others confusing the sh*t out of with with offsets, well done, I am still none the wiser. :p

Yeah I am still going to the meet. Going to mates to see about the alarm tomorrow, if not will get it done in the garage as been quoted £20 to get it disconnected.

I have not had a good look around so you could probably help verify anything he has already done on the engine ;)

Do you know if he fitted the horn or did he buy it like that?

Do you know his forum name as I might pm him?

Thought so as I don't know anyone who would want to fit one, especially over the normal horn itself instead of an internal switch or something.

I got cut up in Gateshead near the Civic Centre and police station and used my horn forgetting about the siren. Seen a copper looking so scarpered. That was beginning of December so think I am clear.

i,m runnin 18x8 on front with 245 40 18 and 18x10 rear with 295 30 18 and they are fine on lowered springs
