Cam belt changed - Intermittent miss-fire/ flatspot

Just had the cam belt changed on my Manual TT.

I now notice a slight missfire around 4.5 - 5k and have also noticed it going flat at 6K. The engine used to pull clean through the rev range prior to the belt change.

Both symptoms are very intermittent, but before i go back to the garage and ask them to look into the issue, is there anyone here who has had similar probs?

People on here have had all sorts of probs buddy. I wouldnt even bother searching for ideas or 'i wonder if it could be's'. Just take it back straight away before it causes somthing else to go and then they will try and wiggle out of any repair. Good luck with it matey!!

if its only since cambelt has been fitted i would guess the timing may be out by 1 tooth and is retarding/advacing the timing, get a timing strobe on the crank pully and check your getting 15 degrees, if its chucking the timing right off, the cambelt needs removing and reffited correctly

Could be a boost leak if they haven't connected the pipes back up correctly?

"Cam belt changed - Intermittent miss-fire/ flatspot "

I think there may be a clue in the question, if the cam belt was incorrectly fitted it would give consistant poor running not intermittent.

Chances are that poor connections to the cas , ptu or even injectors are giving the intermittent misfire and the holding back at higher revs could also be cause by a poor connection at the cas unit causing intermittent drifting ( retarding ) of the ignition.

Of course the belt could be wrong, but it would not give intermittent faults, was it a specialist, main dealer or normal garage? dependant on which one will most likely effect how it is dealt with.

Hey Daveman / chaps,

Cheers for your advice.

Nissan main in Didcott performed the cam belt change as well as fitting new fuel pump and regulator. The car has been off the road since end Oct' and i have only just got her back last week.

I took 'er' out for a spin shortly after writing the original message on Tuesday affy. The engine never missd a beat, not once in 2.5 hours of driving.

Any hoo...

I plan to give her a spin tonight and see if the symptoms are evident.

Will give Nissan a bell tomorrow anyway and see what they say.

Thanx guys.

:)
