Hi bud.

Unfortunately I know nothing about HDMI amps, in fact I didn't even know you could get them :D (but I do now as I've just done a quick bit of research)

ย

I'd recommend staying with Sony if you've been happy in the past with you current one (I've also got a Sony one :D ) Price wise, probably in the ยฃ300 mark.

ย

As for Upscaling, it's when a video image is not already in the HDMI size/format, so the equipment upscales it to the correct definition (ie 675 to 1080 etc) A normal DVD player is designed for the standard 675 lines on a TV screen, and the HDMI is 1080, so it makes it look right. Of course it's not real Hi-Def, but it's as close as you'll come without upgrading your DVD player as well.

HTH, and sorry for the non-technical jargon ;)

Thanks mate for the info do you think i can upscale sky without a high deff skybox.

I found it hard to class these home cinema products as an amp

I have just got one of these and I am pleased enough with it

This one has a optical fiber in and also 2 phono in

ย

The other ones I looked at didnt seem to want anything to be plugged into them!

I listened to a lower spec one than this also made by pioneer and had the same speaker setup and wattage and I was impressed so I bought the model that you could plug stuff into.

I didnt really want tall boy speakers at the rear and also the price was a bonus as well.

looking at the exact thing at the moment bud

ย

i will either be going for the yamaha 2700, denon 3806 or possible the pioneer ax4 or similar which all upscale to 1080 lines and have decoders for hd so you can have loads of inputs and 1 output to the tv ie a hdmi cable

ย

half of me thinks its not worth the hastle as i need to change my TV, my amp and get the sky hd box so all in all about ยฃ3k worth of equipment changes and will be lucky yo get ยฃ1k back selling my old stuff :(

It does upscale HDMI to 1080i.

The problem I had is I wanted to change my 36" CRT Telly which had DTS and Doldy Digital Built in, to a LCD which was nicam stereo, lol. I had to get a home cinema system so I opted for that one
