Howdy Y'all - Happy New Year.

I'm looking to purchase a 94 300ZX TT, in the next 2 months and the plan is to take it from a 280BHP machine to, initially a 450BHP (similar torque figure) at the rear wheels animal. I've read that the VG30DETT engine is more than capable of doing this but does need turbo upgrades as the T25's aren't that good at sustaining boost, new rods, cooling etc....

Is there a definitive list anywhere of the mods that can be done to achieve this. From reading the VG30DETT engine can cope comfortably with 600 bhp.

Has anyone done this kind of upgrading, and what are the costs going to be so that I can budget accordingly.

Also, NOS kits for Zed's, are they a good, bad or just plain stupid idea?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Paul

James, how are you getting on with the Nitrons? You spoken to Pete again yet about the top mounts and clevis measurements?

I'll PM you now

  • 1 month later...

I was only searching for uprated fuel pumps lol and found this post.

Hopefully within the next few months i should be joining the big hp boys, i'm hoping for at least 600hp at the flywheel.

I've got almost all the parts, pretty much all.

It's in the engine shope being machined as we speak then my mechanic will start building, i'm ditching the Plenum going for a single 100mm got it from chick boy land, looks awesome, shiney ;)

lol thing what makes me laugh about is, the engine bay is wow, well the engine then you step back and see the bodywork ummm.... ha one thing at a time i guess.

is it just me or does anyone else think that spending 20-30-40k??? is a little obscene??

for that sort of money your looking at a 996/911 carrera 4s which will anhilate any zed in looks speed performance top end and reliability....

Obviously thats just my opinion but given the choice of having a porsche or a nissan i would definately opt for the porsche.

They way i look at it is, i couldn't afford the 911 (20k) from the begining or up front, i've been doing bits over time although mostly in the last year but i've been saving for this for a couple of year putting bits away.

Thing is with buying a 911 is there is one oh and there is another exactly the same, this way you have a car taylored to yourself and you will never come across one exactly the same.

Another thing is a Zed with 20k spent on it i would imagine would beat a 911 i would be disapointed after having this work done if i couldn't beat one most super cars arnt pushing 600bhp ok i know there is more to it than the bhp figure but it sure does help.

I've probably spent £35K on my Z including buying it for £9K but it's over 7 years and I'm keeping it a few more yet.

It will and has absolutely murdered a 911 4s.

No way could I have afforded the commitment of £40K plus running costs over 5 years or so to buy a Porsche.

When I have no money the Z stays off the road and costs me nothing.

Does the 911 win?

Looks? Not for me it doesn't.

Speed? No 0-60 is similar.

Performance? Doubt it with all my suspension/wide arch mods.

Top end? No I think 190mph ish will see to that.

Reliability? Yes OK but I see it as my hobby not just transport LOL

The 911 Turbo is about equal and that's a £100K car with massive running costs.

When I get it mapped soon and the boost turned up I should be running about 100bhp more than a 911 turbo so that will change.

Anyway, you see 911's everywhere - my car is unique :)

I parked it in Leeds outside some posh bars on a saturday night last year and came back to find a big crowd around my Z looking inside and giving it loads of praise.

As I walked over a few guys wanted to shake my hand as they do when they're pissed and see a nice car LOL

Best thing was, not a single person was looking at the orange Lamborghini Murcielago parked in front of me!

Now that made me smile! :D

Well said, see that's why people do it.

Not only that, i'm 23 and have nothing better to spend money on lol.

I parked it in Leeds outside some gay bars on a saturday night last year and came back to find a big crowd around my Z looking inside and giving it loads of praise.
