Hi everyone, i just bought a 300zx TT on friday the 22 dec (i wanted 1 for ages) and joined the club sortly afterwards, its has a few faults that i need to get sorted and i could really use some advice.

1st of all, and most worrying is that i have really low oil pressure, starts off at about 4 then drops down to 0 when the engine is warm. I was adivised to change the oil and filter 1st to see if that helped but just done that and no joy. So i guess its 1 of 3 things, the sender, the gauge or the pump. The engine has only done 53k miles (if i believe the reading) and the engine sound great. What would you reccomend i try next?

Next is the speedo. 1st of all it seems to have a mind of its own, it works some times then throws a wobbly (goes up and down) and stops working, then ok again. It this a sender problem, and is it easy to fix?

Last of all is the speedo face, mine is in KMH only and reads up to 300 KMH. The MPH speedo faces i have seen for sale only go up to 190 KMH (120 MPH).

So im not sure what i need to do to get my speedo reading in MPH. Do i need to get the conversion device fitted?

Thx for your time in reading this, i just want to get my 300zx up to scratch and i hope to meet up with some of you guys in the new year.

P.S Nearly forgot. I want to give my 300zx a full sevice including timming belt. I got a stupid price for over £1100 from nissan and was wondering if any1 knows a place near me that services 300zx. I live is south Cumbria. Thx again.

Welcome to the forum bud :hyper: Your oil pressure will probably be your sender unit , most of them do the same :headvswal , it,s more reliable to fit an aftermarket guage and sender to put your mind at rest .

Speedo faces can be changed for an MPH one and altered using a resistor to read correctly , don,t know how to do it myself but it should be covered in the FAQ section .

As for garages , there,s quite a few specialist Z garages around , should be able to find the nearest to you in the traders section ,

People will think you,ve gone a bit strange when you start driving a zed cos you end up with a permanent grin on your face

Enjoy it bud !!

Hi mate Oil pressure gauge low reading is common on zeds mine does the same .It can be fixed with a new sender but a after market gauge is the best opotion .Your speedo sounds like a after market one from japan either MINES or NISMO they dont normally have 300k speedos i recon your gearbox senders knackered .I paid £550 for a cam belt change i had all other belts done and both idlers and tensioner changed as well and a new thermostat .

Thx for the info so far guys.

My speedo is a NISMO face, so will i have to buy another?

As for a new pessure gauge and gearbox sending, any advice where i can get them from?

Have a good new years eve guys and dont drink to much ;)

Hi welcome to the forum and welcome to zed ownership, you will find the help and advise forum very handy and as a zed owner you will be spending most of your time in here, lol just kidding-ish. Seriously.

Firstly the stock oil pressure gauge isnt the most reliable as with most of the gauges in the zed, if you can get a good after market oil pressure, water temp, boost gauge etc fitted that will give a more accurate reading, its most likley to be the stock gauge or sender the oil pumps are pretty good on the zed.

With the speedo its most likley to be the motor behind the clock as they are electric not cable, you will have to replace the clock, i had the same thing on a 200sx, and while the clocks are out you can do away with the limiter if its still fitted. there is a conversion kit you can get to fit behind the clocks this can be done at the same time as the clocks are out and it does away with the limiter too i think. UK clocks go up to 180mph

Nissan are rip off cnuts and most of the people there have never worked on these cars, zeds do require specialists knowledge as they are so complicated, i dont personally know of any one in your area who has good knowledge of the zed. Good luck anyway

It's possible that the speedo problem is due to a bad connection rather than a broken sender. Remove the speedo unit and check over the back of the circuit board for anything that looks dodgy.

heres where the fun starts

Do not use a speedo converter to unlimit the car, do the resistor mod ( I used the converter box and the gear changes went a bit so did the resistor mod and its right as rain, once resistor mod is done you are best having a aftermarket chip fitted to remove the limit and pop the redline up to 7200rpm ( i can recomment andy P as he did mine )

The oil thing has been covered

I paid 440 for a full belt change and water pump replacement

Welcome to the Z

I think you will need a diffrent resistor than normal because you have a 300k clock face.Could be some dry solder joints on the circuit board .

Thx for all your advice guys its much appreciated. I have been a member of another jap car club but from what ive seen so far this club seem superior.

I guess i just didnt have the right jap import before and like boldy said my smile is bigger than it has been when im driving my ZX, even with its faults.
