Hi all,

This morning I had a very interesting conversation with someone who works for the company that manufactures the ordinary speed cameras in the UK. She mentioned that one way of telling that a box has an operational camera in it is to observe two ventilation holes opened at the back of the box. They will be open for ventilation purposes and closed when there isn't a cam inside. On my way home from my training I passed four cameras and only one of them had the vent holes opened - presumably containing an operational camera (couldn't check coz I was stuck in traffic). That would make sense as per general consensus only 25% of all speed cameras are actually operational.

Has anyone else heard about this or can anyone confirm the above?

Danny is correct with this Info.

We have two Cameras on the A217, one is operational and flashes like a fucker every few seconds and it has the vents open, there is one that never on and I always flash past it at a ton, and it never goes off, vents holes closed.

lol i cant wait for the masses of i'm selling my car due to the fact ive been clocked by a speed camera

Forgot to mention that most nonoperational cameras will still flash you when passing and radar detectors should pick these up as the radar function of cameras is always on (in most cases).

Having said all the above, I do not take any responsibility for anyone being ticketed because you got flashed and the above info was incorrect wink.gif

Cheers!

The theory sounds good but a little pointless!

Scenario: When approaching a speed camera you automatically slow down to the correct speed ie 30 mph, then you can look up and see vents shut and zoom off... If you have to slow down anyway, what's the point?

And there is no chance of checking all local one because whilst your gone (thinking lens shut, not working) they can turn up and drop a film in it!!!!

Just my thought biggrin.gif

I think it would be cool to carry a set of step ladders in the boot, if you see one of these open vent gatso then stop. Take out the step ladder and put it up against the gatso. Climb the ladder and piss in the hole.

What about squirting that expanding foam into it?? That would take it out of action!!!

a twelve guage always works well from about ten ft.......have a look at the one on the a6 just through buxton

I passed 2 gatso's today, both had the vents closed- but my radar detector went off on the two of them.

I wouldn't just rely on the holes being open to spot a 'live' one.
