guys, you may recall there was a post saying that I could hear an awfull whine on my trans, or on the back of my engine

(mk1 Auto Twin Turbo Import)

Well, the noise is deffinetly from the autobox, how depressing.. it gets worse,

the car now slips out of drive within going about 10 yards down the road.

It does seem very odd though, that if i turn the car off, leave it 30secs, start her up again, it will go in gear.

is there any reason why this would happen?

The sound is deffintley Hydraulic now, theres no denying it. any suggestions what can I can do now?

is it likely to be the torque converter, or a pump within the gearbox unit.

Is there any way that i can drain the sump. or does the oil have to be sucked out.

worst case scenario, what am i looking for on a box replacement (plus labour)

And for a conversion to manual

any feedback greatly recieved :( - what a crappy christmas for me

Sounds like the filter is blocked to me. Stop the engine and the crud blocking it falls back down to the bottom again. Changing the oil and cleaning the filter may work for a while, but it's usually parts of the clutch plates that cause the blockage - this is a bad thing !

If you can get the car to us we can take a look for you. Have you checked the gearbox oil level ? There is a sump drain on the bottom, and you can remove the sump to gain access to the filter.

We can supply & Fit a replacement Autobox for £600 or a Manual conversion for £1200

so am I right in thinking then, the autobox, in a nutshell is gone?

SWZ, you state £600 - not that I mind, but that sounds uber reasonable, do you refurb your own boxes? does that price include vat? and what guarantees do you provide?

also, how long does it take you to swap a box? so I can organise some time round buton on sea ;)

its not a re-con box but one out of a car we have scrapped. We have bought a few and keep a couple in stock. We give 3 months on auto boxes. we dont charge VAT yet so you get away with that LOL.

If you want a re-con one it will be closer to £1000

Best thing might be to drop it off so we could diagnose it first.

I make that £70 from Rooksbridge, Somerset to Weymouth in Dorset (69 miles) from there to here (plus return trip cost) - I can then call up and drive it home when shes bumbling around in drive again :)
