My Z is in the body shop as we speak having some rust and scratches sorted but more importantly having the crappy water filled sponge spoiler replaced.

Now the body shop guy rang me and said he has the old spoiler off and to be honest the car look fooking sh!t hot without it. Which I have to admit, Z's I have seen without them do. I havn't seen it yet.

So, what do I do :-

1) get the replica fiberglass spoiler fitted

or

2) go smooth

????

I'm going to the body shop today at 2 PM.

With going smooth can you "bodge" it and then fit the perspex strip at a later date or does the strip really need fitting straight away ???

and how is this fitted ???

strip needs fitting asap really but you can do with out it but it looks bare.

I would go smooooooth

The other option is do what my car's previous, previous owner did which is be a cheapskate, weld a metal sheet into place then fill and paint over the top and it's crap. I'm now looking at the prospect of having to have a new tailgate fitted and sprayed with that plastic trim bit fitted as there's no way i can get the metal out etc without alot of work.

im personally not too keen on the smooth look, the car dosnt look finished off to me. There is plenty of after market spoilers available to suit everyones taste, but each to their own

are you suggesting a spoiler by any chance

Smooth. Check out my Journal for pics and info about the DIY process. :D

(N.B. there's a stong chance I might ditch the smooth rear end and build a custom jobbie in tone with the rest of the work being done...but I do like the smooth look. On a car less radical I think it works really well.)

smooth is the best....spoilers are just that....they spoil the look...:D

thats not true smooth tho thats a tailgate skin :p

I think the replica spoiler is alright from some angles but dead on from the back makes the car look square and old. I think the smooth rear really updates the look (especially with 99 specs) and almost makes it look like a concept car's rear.

99 spec rear lights that is.

But there may well be a spoiler out there that you love.
