I was in the house and the dog had trashed my sisters room right and he is a big dog and has bitten before. Most of the time he is playfull and a nice dog until you give him food and then you cant go near him. Well there was no food and he was the other side of the room. I bent down and picked up a bottle of perfume that was on the floor but before I had even stood up the dog had bitten me hard. Right through my bloody shoe and into my toes that was a few days ago and my toe isnt that bad but it has got a bit of puss coming out of it. But my question is how could you ever trust a dog like that ?

My concern is my kids if they went in there and picked something up that he didn't want them to that would be it. Now he is a big dog and is about 5'10" when stood on his back legs. There is no way myself or anybody could stop him doing anything he wanted to do. Now my kids aren't aloud in the house and my sister is offended but what can I do ? :(

alaskan malamutes are gorgeous, japanes akitas look very similar. i agree holding a dog by its lead with its from paws off the ground and beating it is cruel and would never condone it myself. my male was purchased at 12 mths old and already had behaviour problems and got profesional help to sort it, the normal dog trainng classes were no help and i was turned away from 1 place because akitas are fighting dogs, i went to that trainer as a last resort because he was a police dog trainer and knew his stuff but was shocked when he used the word "hanging"

i'm used to big dogs i had a argentinian mastiff when i lived abroad, even helped with my friends scrapyard rottwieler but when your own dog bites you it's scary

Yep you should have kicked the living crap out of it.

We used to have Great Danes for years. Always had a dog and a bitch. All dogs at some stage will try to esablish it's position in the Pack (how they view the family)

They all try it on and will if aloud try it on with any new incoming males unless they know well and truely who is the pack leader.

A good healthy Great Dane Dog weighs between 12.5 to 14.5 stone and has a bite compression of 2 tons. They were bread by the knights Templar as War dogs and could bite a horses lower leg off. So as gental as they can be you certainly keep em in line once they start to challenge. So if your sister has never established this then the dog will get to an age where it will not be ruled and will attack anyone who it feels are not obaying its rules or respecting its position as pack leader.

If this is the case then it needs putting down as once. If it thinks its been top dog it will always keep trying to reacert it self. If not it needs knocking into shape so it knows its place real fast. Sorry to say it though but it sounds like its been left too late

Anyone that "hangs" a dog should be hit with the lump of 3x2

Why can't people have nice dogs?

Why do people feel the need to buy a £1000 killing machine? They're all a bit of a chav trophy anyway.

A dog like that should have been properly trained from a puppy. Sorry, I'm a dog lover, but I get really p***ed off with irresponsible dog owners who don't train, don't socialise and don't consider their animal's (and neighbours') welfare before just going out and getting a dog because they like the look of it or whatever. They should bring back licensing and dog owners should be required to take their dogs to obedience classes, for which they should be required to pay, and to reach a certain minimum standard of training. They should also be required to train their dogs not to bark because I am so sick of my neighbours' dogs' constant barking (still, I now have a device to deal with this, so it's not such a big deal). Best thing you can do with an animal like that, which can't be trusted, is take it outside and shoot it.

And I'm not being funny, people like that really shouldn't have a dog. I've had 2 German Shepherds who I trust but I will ALWAYS put other people and their safety first! There's a responsibilty to owning a dog and they are not being responsible for that dog, the sad thing is without training, that dog should be put down and I don't say that very lightly as I love dogs :(

You're doing the right thing! ;)

Bang on mate. German Shepherds in particular have a very undeserved bad reputation, but it's entirely down to irresponsible owners. Those things need looking after. It's is actually my first choice of dog (haven't had a dog for about 10 years now and have been dying to get one) but unfortunately I can't because it wouldn't be fair on the dog to be stuck in all day while I'm at work, so I'm going to need to go for something a bit more chilled out like a Golden Retriever.

A German Shepherd would just get bored and become neurotic and self-destructive... and bark all the time because it was so bored. This is the problem with my neighbours' dogs. One's a German Shepherd and is clearly bored out of its brains, although it's now learned that I'm not a stranger and doesn't bark at me when I'm in my back garden. Their other dog on the other hand does (not sure what that one is though).

They certainly can be, but that doesn't need to be the case: do the required training classes thing and price 'em out of the market. ;)

Sory.

1. If the dogs attacks are unprovoked then it should be muzzled at all times and the owner and teh dog need to go to lessons.

2. If the dog is found to be dongerous then it has to be put to sleep.

3. On absolutly no account should children be any where near a dog like that period.

sorry im a bit of a ******* here, personally the dog has entrenched behaviour traits that will be hard to remove because he sees everyone in his environment as his lessers and he is the pack leader, I would never take children into "his" environment untill the owner has retrained it, to be a bit harsher though any animal that is that poorly trained by its owner should be removed from its owner and given to responsible owners who know how to handle the animal, in truth a dog doesnt like being leader in a human world as it is often confused by our behavior and should look to a strong leader for its behavior cues

I'm more worried for the dog after biting your foot  Has it had its imunisations? :D ;) If you do have it put down then I'm sure it would make a lovely coat

Sorry couldn't resist :x:

Listen there's nothing wrong with it that a lump of lead in its ear can't cure.

You administer with a Perdi at point blank.
