Right with the handbrake off, jack the back end up and pull the wheels off.

You will see a rubber bung in the drum between the wheel studs, take this out and look into the drum with a small torch (the bung should be positioned at about 6 oclock) you will see a small adjusting cog, with a screwdriver adjust this until you can't turn the drum anymore and then back it off until the drum turns without binding on the shoes.

The less you back the adjuster off the better the handbrake will be.

Good luck.

Try adjusting it under the leather gaitor on the handbrake first if there is any adjustment left it would be alot easier.

scrawni is right you should ALWAYS adjust the drum clearance first as by just tightening the adjuster at the lever you can pull the shoes on and wear them out.this is a golden rule when adjusting any handbrake on any car.

Yep do as Scawni says then finnish it at the handbrake lever for the finnal adjustment.

The manual says at the rear wheel tighten it fully then back it of 6 - 7 cogs its a bit fiddely but if I can do it then anyone can. Then finnish adjusting it at the handbrake lever. If you have the orginal handbrake gatters you will not even have to remove them just undo the little popper thing and carefully insert a spanner.

All the best :)

No - you should REMOVE any adjustment at the lever first, then 'rough' adjust at the drum, then fine adjust at the lever - otherwise you'll be doing it all again in no time bacause the lever's almost at full adjstment when you've finished!!

correct ! plus the lever may have never of been adjusted so why go through all the hassle. All you have to do is make sure the brakes aren't dragging.
