What I would like is links to easy to use software to download torrents, you know the one idiots like me can work.

I use Azureus for downloading and Torrentspy.com for the torrents, pretty easy to use

But how do I open the files once they are downloaded

What extension do the ones you are downloading have ?

Its a .torrent file

the .torrent file really acts as a pointer and allows you to find other users to swarm with.

 

You then can download bits of the file you need from those who have seeded the file. You download the file in pieces from different users and eventually the file download is complete.

You need to open the .torrent file with a program like Azureus, BitTorrent, BitLord to name just a few. There are loads out there readily available

I sussed it, still slow though but hey its free.

uTorrent is by far and away the best client software. If you have a working listen port and download reasonably popular torrents then it should be very fast.

vlc media player is a good player for free as well
