Lost my thread there after all that typing...The Zed looks great , just crawling along in traffic , or standing still even . Especially from the front and side-view . No contest .

IMHO , the RX7 is a strange-looking thing , oddly proportioned , Shape-wise, windows etc..I actually prefered the older one that looked a bit 944-ish .

The RX8 looks like the wings are a bad aftermarket addition .

I expect disagreement , ( Letsdrift ;) ) , but we all have opinions :p

I have the older Tubby II convertable. They have a far harder suspension that the Zed. I love both.

RX8 are alright but only if you have the Turbo conversion and they are a lot nicer looking than some things out there.

" RX8 are alright but only if you have the Turbo conversion and they are a lot nicer looking than some things out there. "

True , true , fair enough ! lol

Be honest , how often do you , or any of us , drive " seat-of the-pants " style ? That way lies inevitable disaster .

Have to say I'm in total agreement with this.

Use all the power on any of these care more than very occassionally and it'll all end in tears.

ok i know its bin a while scine ive owned a zed , 5 months and i maybe a little bias

i loved the zed for its looks its style and good speed , but mine let me down in the bit where it hurts the pockets ,i payed 4k spent 6k and sold it for 3k it doesnt take much to understand why im still bitter about the whole expereince most of you know why and its in the past ! but i still hold a torch for the zed and for one im proud to say i owned it !

would i get another yes one day but at the moment my early evo is reliable, "never broke down once" pratical fast to 1oomph like no other ive ever driven and its always put a smile on my face as did the zed when it behaved , the only negative thing i can say about my evo is it doesnt look like a zed and thats it really mine is an early evo which wastes all older evos as its lighter and faster as it doesnt have all the yaw gizmos and elec diffs , its full on 4wd full time , which is the same on all evos 1-3 , after the 3 they got heavier and more techy

I'd never buy an Evo.....as much as they have interesting mechanicals and great engines...do you really want something that ugly? Just looks like a chaved up taxi IMHO. Rex? Kinda like the Rex, but it doesn't have as much road presence and it doesn't sound as nice. But a great car.

Looks like we agree on something else.........

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

well ive been to the jap northeast meet today and saw a truly gorgous mitsi evo 5, im well tempted, but in the same sense my zed although not finished and filthy got quite a bit of attention

so its either keep the zed or a metallic blue evo 5

  • 1 month later...

i have had 2 300zx, 2 rx7s and 3 impreza's. the one reason i like the impreza is because im 6'2 and the sound wicked, but after i own them a week, im board. to much understeer!! but they can be cheap.

I love the rx7, i still have one, but its for sale because: 1, im 6'2, and its a bit tight. 2 25-30 miles to a tenner, it looks really nice, but a bit too standard without a kit on it.

Now the 300zx has it all for me, looks amazing, sound amazing, better on fuel(not great on fuel!) and this club is 10 times better than the mazdarotaryclub. my rx7 has been rebuilt, so im not bothered about people moaning about reliability, i haven't started it for a month, and it started first time this afternoon!

too cut a long story short, keep the zed. if not, how much do you want for it? Hehehe

rex i think. change is good just coz u sell ya zed an buy another car dont mean u cant get one again in the future lol. but i do like rex's alot not a big fan of evo's at all tbh

evo's are ok but it aint a real sports car. its more a tuned family car. 4WD is great off the line but you pay for it in handling hence the twitchyness (they didnt want it to understeer like the impreza does). also i keep hearing about diffs, clutches, etc etc on the earlier (upto the 6) cars eating themselves when they get used hard regularly or get tuned.

RX7 - i'd buy one of these if it had any guts before boost and didnt need a rebuild everytime you get carried away for more than 5 mins. great car but....

Z - always have silly probs but you can (once sorted) get real power and torque with at least some longevity.

also, if you're not gunning it the Z actually rides well and is comfy. dont think you can say that for an RX7 and evo's bounce around a lot.

also, if you're going to go play, do you head for a housing estate with 90-deg bends and s#1t tarmac of do you go find a nice bit of twisting A or B road? if its the first get an evo. if not keep the Z.

well over chrimbo ive had a long hard think and it was nearly go for an evo, but ive decided to stick with the zed and prob spend some cash on the engine and suspension

cheers guys

Definately the right choice.

My wife has a gorgeous white RX7, which I get to play with at the weekends (wash and polish for her :wack: )

You would have regretted buying to be honest. It's cramped inside and performance does not justify fuel consumption.

We test drove some Evo's before deciding on the Rex. They all seemed slow, a lot slower than my Zed, which surprised me.

Love the look of them though, but love my Zed more :)

fair play mate

good choice. i had the option of a few cars when i got the Z (had 10k at the time) but the Z was the one that impressed me the most.

you'll be hapiest when its done.

My opinion is:

Depends what you want from your car/toy

is it a fast road car? then the evo is the better car all round

is it a top end speed car then tbh the zed is the best one

if you want a more unusual car that handles well for a rwd car then maybe the rx7 but i dont like the sound of them.

i know people slate the scoobies but my in law has the type r 2 door running pretty standard and upto 120 mph is will do most cars including zeds!! 0-60 in 4.3s which aint bad out of the factory :)

if i had an evo it would have to be the evo400, i have driven one of them and its mental, 0-60 in 3.8s and does 180+mph and does handle very very well.
