Me boiler's playing up - any idea what's wrong?

I've been in this house a week and the boiler's playing up.

It flashes a fault code - F.

According to the manual that means a fault on a PCB.

I can press 'reset' and it's ok - for a while then goes wrong again.

Any ideas how to fix it short term / loing term?

Cheers!

She is probably fed up with doing too much washing up, buy her some marigolds that should cheer her up.

yup (printed circut board) you will need an engineer, bit like a zed if you dont know about them you are fooked and will cost a fortune

if it is PCB it will need replacing but get engineer out to check fault codes are quite good at telling you whats wrong tell me what boiler it is i can give you idea of price

Thanks lads

It sounds like it won't be cheap.

The Mrs has found that British Gas do a fixed price call out and mend a fault, inlcuding everything for about £160 so we'll probably go for that.

It sounds like the part alone would cost at least that much.

ps - it's fookin cold without it!

it is usually a set price for so many parts e.g replace 1 major part £160 as you said and it goes up depending how many parts need changing. Most boiler manufactures do this aswell, they will send their engineers out to fix the boiler at a fixed price. as i said if you give me the boiler name and model i might be able to sort something out for you, or drop me an email tmdplumbing@btopenworld.com

nooooooooooooo dont do it,if its the pcb like mine went take it to a trusted tv enginer,it just contains common circirtry and can be tested component by component along the circirt track.iff the processors gone then its a diffrent story but its worth a try :)

got mine fixed for £20 labour and 20 pence materials (1 resistor burnt) ;)

Well an engineer came, checked everything - which was ok so that suggested it was the PCB.

He replaced that (£250 for the part) and now it's bringing up fault code H3 - which isn't listed in the manual.

The engineer's fooked off and we're stuffed for heat for the weekend. Balls. Plus he sems to have left several screws out and it all looks wonky now. Should have listened to my Mrs - British Gas do a fixed price 'fix a boiled fault' for £160 odd including everything.....

Wish I'd stuck with them.... they were meant to come on Wednesday but failed to show up. They offered to come again but I told them to 'eff off' and went with this independent bloke instead.

Ah well.... I'm sure it'll all get sorted one way or the other. It's just annoying having spend four days waiting in for various engineers to come and £250 and the fking thing's still not working.

you should have emailed me bud im your way this weekend and would have given you the parts at cost :( what could really piss you off is if an engineer comes out and says the boiler is fecked after you just paid £250
