Having whipped the rear mid spoiler off it's a bit of a mess under there.

It was attached with self tappers through the tailgate. Can anyone give me an idea of what I should expect to pay to get the holes filled in and it repainted before I get some quotes. Its the same on both sides.

Will they weld up the screw holes?

Yep, removing spoiler leaves quite a mess. Lots of holes and usually paint damage.

£150'ish at a Bodyshop to get holes filed, prepped and tailgate resprayed.

cheers, that's not bad, I'll have to take it to a few places and see if I can get a quote around that price...

Dan, are still getting rid of the spoiler i was interested in sometime ago?

You could always try my friend Merv at Faulkner & Shaw (he's always done bodywork & paint on alll my cars) up at Round Spinney industrial estate for a quote i think i've already given you his number. However i do know he's fully booked till the second week in January at the mo.

Yep he was going to be my first port of call as you'd recommended him, not too bothered about waiting a bit, spoiler is still sat in my garage. I might scew it back on until I get the boot sorted but then it's all yours..

Best off having the backs of it strengthened with fibreglass (from the inside). I know from my own experience of originally having bought a car with a smooth tail that the filler can sink. So make sure the bodyshop doesn't just try and wack a load of filler in there with no support from behind.

yes I did wonder what the usual method of refilling the holes would be. Wouldn't a good bodyshop be a able to weld up the holes and then grind it back?

I don't want to spend a fortune on this as I want to get the whole car re-painted after my wedding in April next year.

Excellent cheerz bud

I'll ring Merv and let him know you'll be calling, he will want to see the car (obviously  ) to give you an accurate price and i'm sure if you mention FunkySi suggestion about the fibreglass support or like you say welding he'll agree and do it.

You'd distort the tin workd doing that I think. The metal on the tailgate is so thin you'd burn through it.

Saying that, yours are holes on the leading edge of the tailgate aren't they as you had one of those high level spoilers. So the metal might be a little thicker there. You'll be ok with decent filler in that area. It's the holes from the OE spoiler that need attention along the flat of the tailgate.

What are you replacing the spoiler with? Or are you going smooth?

Thanks james, I'll try and give the guy a ring today, I'll let you know when you can have the spoiler.

Si the holes are just on the sides of the tailgate, the top of the spoiler has already been done and still looks good. I'll have to see what the various bodyshops suggest as to filling the holes.

Would love to just get the whole car painted now, but if I spend 2.5k on a respray before the wedding I'll be a dead man.. :smash:

I'm not replacing the spoiler I just love the look of it smoothed, then I just need a 99 spec front bumper and I'll be happy, just love the look of the Zed pretty much standard really.

Dan,

When you go and see Merv ask him to quote you on the respray aswell he did a wicked full respray job on my old E30 some years ago for less than a grand however it wasn't metallic and we all know that's always more

Hope you get sorted out (i'll give Merv a bell at 1 when i'm on lunch) and look forward to getting the spoiler ;)

...and rear lights of course. :)

My tailgate had the holes welded. You just need to make sure the person doing it knows what their about. Lee at Wrexham autoKraft was going to weld a plate to the reverse to stop the flexing but as strange as it sounds. Once the holes were welded the skin was quite rigid.
