I discovered that my Carbon Canister (located behind the passenger side intercooler) is/has been (for god knows how long) - in two pieces!

Basically the base has parted company with the body!

Having had some idle/cold start issues that I pretty much cured with IAA unit overhaul/cleaning - I have still been slightly aware that my car [feels/sounds like] is not what it was 'BUT' - because it has not been on the road for a while, and has a blowing exhaust I can't be sure - it's one of those 'need to drive it hard - can't drive it' scenario's!

Anyway the question was - would/could the Carbon Cannister being in two pieces be construed as a vacuum leak - and therefore have similar effects on performance, clod start, economy etc?

Cheers ;)

Hmmm - interesting - my other jap 300ZX also has the carbon cannister in two pieces!!!!!!

This results in the cannister being 'OPEN', and I am not sure what the effect is on performance, or if it constitutes a vacuum leak as such (probably) - but I would urge folks to check theirs (probably from the inside of the passenger side wheel arch is the easiest way) next time they have their front passenger side wheel off!!

SO THATS TWO CC REMOVAL/BYPASSES I HAVE DONE TODAY - IT'S ALL GOOD!

Can anyone confirm that a separated carbon canister equates to a vacuum leak??

Thanx Andy & Co - so I should see a marked improvement when I EVENTUALLY get her back on the road - cool!

YEP Chris - all done on both cars - must admit they are sounding better (or it could be my imagination)

Also discovered that someone had used 8mm vacuum tube instead of 6mm in three places/connections - so once I had changed that out things improved somewhat as well - nightmare!!

Andy
