I've not played any games for nearly a year due to studying and working, and fancy getting something new to chill out. One of my favourite all time games is operation flashpoint, a tactical battlefield/shooter. I like games that are shooters but where you have to use tactics as well, you know: run forward, hide behind some cover and cover the next man running forward, another sniper covering from somewhere else, all that sort of stuff. Counter strike was great also because of the same sort of thing, although I do like something a bit more sophisticated. I don't like the everyone for themselves blasters where lots of people are just running around killing each other. I find them a bit boring, I'd rather be mission based co-op play or something like that. What is the best current multiplayer game along these lines? I've heard battlefield (2142 is it?) is good? What I saw of it didn't look very team based though, maybe thats just because it wasn't an organised clan though? it also seemed a bit unfocused in that everyone was running around a bit blind and not working together.

try Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30 - its a good trade-off between shooting/tactics/teamwork, and you can pick it up at a budget price too. i got it last week from Game for 2 for £15 and im well happy with it. being a couple of years old you dont need a top-end spec to run it either.

BF2142: processor hungry and futuristic. Multiplayer fun but a bit of an unknown quantity so not enough teamwork developed. I'd wait for decent mods.

Battlefield 2 - Very good but the Commander mode spoils it. Find a server with this disabled and you'll enjoy it more. Missile lock-on takes away a lot of the dogfight skills from DC Final.

BF1942 - DC Final Mod: Still IMHO the best if you want planes/tanks etc but decreasing in popularity.

Far Cry - Looks fab, good AI, few servers, no teamwork.

Half Life 2 Deathmatch - great fun and looks lovely but no vehicles. TDM OK but game favours individual scrapping.

Team Fortress Classic - Get back into it to practice before TF2 comes out! Still good for teamwork. Looks dated.

Counterstrike - Fab, popular and a great test of reflex and tactics. Looks dated though.

UT2007 - Not out yet but it's going to be another glorious looking blast-fest. Teamwork unknown.

UT2004 - Reinstall it to practice in time for UT2007. Some mods favour teamwork, others don't.

Call of Duty - Good, but never really appealed to me.

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys, good replies. I've only got a many year old laptop (32mb graphics card)so it needs to be one of the older games. Its such a shame farcry isn't team orientated as I love the enviroments on that. Is anyone still playing operation flashpoint multiplayer? I might try to find some. Failing that it looks like counter strike might re-appear yet again.

Gears of War is no good as I don't have a console, I prefer the faster action of having a mouse and keyboard. It winds me up too much having everything slowed down to deal with the controllers.
