The great annual 'funkysi hates Christmas thread'...Who hates Christmas?

I'm not reservist to say and won't hide the fact that I can't stand Christmas. But unfortunately, it seems like it's upon us again, much to my frustration. It's due to that frustration and not actually being able to get away from it which is the reason why I can't stand it.

People's excuse for trying to get me to like it.

"You get to see all your family"

I see them all the time anyway and all my Hungarian relatives, I hardly ever see, even at Christmas, infact, see this part of the family during summer time which is a far nicer time.

"Excuse to go and get wrecked"

Well, who actually needs an excuse?

"Only happens once a year"

True, but it lasts months due to the commercialisation of it.

"Just ignore it"

How the hell do you ignore it? It's like trying to ignore a nuclear warhead that was hypothetically detonated on your back garden.

"All that lovely food"

Sorry...lovely? Christmas food is fucking disgusting, minced pies, Christmas cake, and Christmas pudding......foul. Turkey? Dry and horrible.....also wins the prize for being the ugliest poultry. As for sprouts, don't even get me started.

I'm agnostic, so as a Christian festival, it doesn't really have much relevance in my life. The rest is just a mass of overspending, over eating and over indulgence when 2/3s of the world are in poverty....just a little sickening really...the entire thing.

But the time we’re half way through December, I already want to hire a death squad out on Noddy Holder.

Before anyone moans at me for being a 'Scrooge', I've asked for anything that anyone wants to get me for Christmas, to take that value and give it to charity instead of wasting it on rubbish for me.

So, the big question, who actually likes Christmas?

No, I'm not atheist as I don't know what exists and that has nothing to do with xmas, as a festival, I don't celebrate it, but don't necessarily dispute its origins. :)

just got a msg from your missus to ask you wont be wanting your yearly shag then, so shall she give your santa suit you usually wear whilst having such annual delights to the charity shop?

i hate it cant abide it, i wish to sleep through it, silly songs and twee pictures of smiling happy children YUK MAKES ME SICK!!!!!

I can't say I was overly bothered by Christmas, for one TV is even worse than normal, however this year is hopefully going to be one of the best ever as it is my boys first one!

It's mainly for kids but the chance to see the family who live a long way away is nice too.

There is also a degree of 'goodwill to all men' out there as well.

Like so many things in life, it's what you make of it Funky - hate it and it'll just bring you down. Ignore the shyte and enjoy the bits that appeal to you.

what you getting me then hehe :nana2:

I love Christmas not all the commericalism though. Christmas is a lovely time of year to reflect and a chance to catch up with people. It brightens up an otherwise dull time of the year.

It's also a Christain Festival and it's nice that those who don't believe or are not sure can also enjoy the time off to do as they please.

I quite like Christmas. Its nice seeing how excited the kids are - especially when they still believe in Father Christmas.

I have to agree that Christmas food is pretty grim but still enjoy the rest of the roast dinner!

It is always a slight relief though when its all over!!!

It's also a Christain Festival

is there any christains left in this country, wonder how long it will be untill we are not allowed to celebrate it for fear of upsetting certain religeons and farther christmas is band?

The celebration of it, as we know it, is actually a Pagan one.

yes the man is right i almost forgot that, so is the harvest festival

Quite correct .. it was originally a pagan festival ..

I love Christmas, I like it because its great to spend quality time with the ones that you love and hold dear. The rest of the year is so frantic, everyone rushing around all the damn time. It gives me the chance to relax. There is nothing better than a walk with the woman you love on a frosty morning with the leaves on the ground and no-one else about.

It is too commercial these days and that annoys me, as well as the adverts on TV and all the shite in the shops, so I don't go shopping in town .. I use the internet and have done so for many years.

Roll on I say .. can't be arsed with the religious side of it, however it does give you some time to reflect on the year and to enjoy yourself and as for Christmas dinner, I love it LMFAO ...

Happy Christmas everybody!!!

Not wanting to put you down or be an anti-Christ, but I find that everyone's rushing around more at Christmas than at any other time of the year. ;)

Not me mate ... that is one time of the year that I take it easy ..

I never work Christmas eve, I spend the day baking, preparing the vegetables for Christmas day lunch, wrapping presents and getting the tree in from the garden and in the evening we just chill and dress the tree together with a bottle of wine. It is one of my favourite days.

If there is any shopping to do, I always shop online as I hate crowds and I'm not exactly a people person. ;)

I like Christmas, but I wish it would only last from mid-December for a couple of weeks. Some of the shops starting to stock Christmas stuff in October is just taking the p*ss and everyone's sick to death of it by the time we get to real Christmas time!

for years Ive dreaded Christmas because of the stress at work (read 'stress' as feeling like being trapped in a giant vice!) but since I turned around and told them to get knotted I shall be enjoying my first work-free Christmas so I can relax and enjoy it, instead of getting two ****ing days off! Christmas is too commercial and all about spending money rather than spending time enjoying friends/family/booze/etc.
