SIM300
Hi all, I have a pair of new GT2560R turbo’s to install into my Zed this coming week. They have the 5 bolt exhaust housing, but I have reused the compressor housing. The actuators have been upgrade (larger) to cope with the higher boost. Because I have the standard compressor housing, do you think I will have enough room for mounting? Or do you think I will need to get smaller actuators such as the HKS items? I’m hoping maybe someone has done this upgrade and can tell me for sure before I pull the engine next week. Left is the same as the actuators I have, right is the smaller HKS actuator. Guest andyduff
You've fitted the stock compressor housings onto the uprated turbos? Its the compressor side of the turbos that limit their efficiency under high revs/boost! Refit the proper compressor housings or you'll be disappointed! Sorry if I misread your post... yamr6
hi sim300. how do you post up pics if your only a registered user.im useless with pc"s
SIM300
Hey Mr Duff, I have larger compressor housing (5 bolt), but re-using the turbine housing, which was machined out to fit larger wheel. They are being installed next week, I'm pretty confident they will fit.
SIM300
WTF! I apoligise, there is dylexia in all its glory!!! I have the stock compressor housing, that has been machined out to fit T-28 core. The turbine housing is larger, and requires 5 bolt dump pipes. These trubo's will flow 22psi max, but peak power will be around 18psi. They are good for 270rwkw+
Guest andyduff
Yeah I see what you've done. You will still have inefficiency problems though due to the diameter of the compressor outlet. At a certain flow the air velocity will hit sonic speed, once this is reached, no matter how much pressure you try to produce, the flow will not get any greater... I'd seriously look at getting the original housings replaced and the fab work required to adapt them to the VG30 pipework...
SIM300
We'll see  Like I said before, I'm not after mega power. It's going to more than enough power for a daily driven car. I too know what you're saying. But wait till I've been on the dyno. I know a guy with a similar setup to mine, but he's still using 4 bolt exhaust housing. He achieved a very impressive 280rwkw at 18psi (with stock injectors). I'd be happy with that :nana2:
ChrisC
You're not going to be running those turbos at 18psi with stock injectors are you? :o
walksonland
On the question you started with use the small (higher capacity) HKS actuators. With the big ones you will have fitting problems they will not hold the boost you want very well and you cannot easily balance both sides. SIM300
Just a quick update, the new turbo's are in. They look great, I can't wait to have the Z back on teh road again. Only think that is stopping me now is a pair of custom dump pipes. Here are a few pics...
SIM300
Results: I went on the dyno last week. Had a few issues I still need to iron out, but overal happy with the war the Zed preformed. First run was with stock boost and I made 210rwkw. We tried a few runs at 0.8bar and I made 239rwkw. Most boost we tried was 1bar and that saw 256rwkw. The was all with the stock fuel system. The turbos were VERY responsive, couldn't be happier. Once I upgrade the fuel system, I should see around 290rwkw at 1.2bar.
