Major pain must have put the door cards on and taken them off again about 4 times for the first speaker. Only got one done on sat due to failing light but the new 6.5 components sound so much better compared to the old coaxials.

Only problem is though that each speaker is only held in by one screw at the moment as I had a severe time limit.

Will they shake themselves off any time soon?

Probably rattle like a tw@t unless you fix them properly

Got some of these:

bit big for the standard fittings so will drill more holes soon.

Hey Bob I heard you had gone awol. I've been reading your work lol!

I can't hear them rattling or anything I'm just worried the one place where the screw is may twist away and drop the speakers. Is that likely?

How close is your shop to the chester town centre? Many people on here have recommended you as somone who could connect my central locking to my alarm (toad ai606). But since you're in chester and I'm on wolvo I may come with some friends and have a shopping trip too. That is if you can wire toads.

Me gone AWOL!!! Longest standing member here(along with DaveW) I`m about 10mins from Chester City Centre and am the Daddy of the Toad Alarm so no problem sorting that out for you!!

Excellent. I'm thinking that maybe as I'm a bit of a cowboy when it comes to my stereo(but one that doesn't go cowboy on other peoples stuff) I could get you to sort the alarm and the proper fitting of my stereo in one go?

Whats your schedule like? do I need to book months in advance? And how much you think it might cost?

It'd be cool if you could do the speaker mounting for me as although I'm really good att ripping door cards off I'm not so great at putting them back on again ;)

BTW I did a search about components vs 6X9's and I read a lot of your posts and they're mostly from 2002. Hence the awol. Sorry dude.

Al

At the moment need a weeks notice and should be able to get that sorted in 2-3 hrs for ya! Mind need some MDF speaker rings depending on how your speakers fit but have those pre-cut anyway so will be ok with them.

Ok that sounds great. I think december 16th would be good but I'll have to make sure my better half isn't at work on that date.

How much do you think it will cost roughly?

Couple of speaker rings, remove and refit 2 doorcards, 2 wire door motor, rewire alarm, i`d say about £60.00 all in.

Sounds good. I should know tomorrow if I can definately do the 16th, do you want me to e-mail or ring to make it official or can you just book me in?

Also chester centre is it a 10 minute walk, drive or bus journey?

No probs, give me a bell when you know, Chester is 10mins by car.

Bob

Nice. Did you drill new holes then?

yeah did dude, used a punch as a guide then drilled new holes and used dynamat .. helps get rid of that 'boxy' sound you can get

Cool. Probably would have done some drilling but I was in a mad rush today. Had lots of family coming to dinner so was in and out the house.

Finally got to use my dremel too to cut out the holes for the components. Amazing piece of machinery!

So what speakers did you have before? Its great having sound coming from somewhere near your ear level isn't it.
