i think it might be your fan belt they often need to be tightend up after a short period of driving, also seems the quickiest way of ruleing it out of the equation

What he said ;)

You can also get some stop squeak from most motor factions if your concerned at the idea of overtightening a belt, you litteraly spray it straight onto the belt job done

Mine did that - it was the alternator belt.

Easy fix if you can get under the car and take the splash guard off.

Our does it when the altenator belt gets wet as we dont have one of them undertray/splash protecter thingys. Anyone know where we can get one or the best way to repair or brace on thats broken.

New they are very expensive. Used they are rare.

Thanks, i'll look into that mate. Might just patch up the one we've got for now though until i got a bit more time and money. And decent weather. Its so crap working outside in this weather. Anyone got spare garage spance ??

I've got the same problem. Usually happens when the alternator's under load - rear demist, aircon, blower etc etc but at least it doesn't last long.

Will a squirt of WD40 onto the belt cure it?

Don't use a lubricant like WD40 on belts. It might make it stop squealing but will slip and destroy itself.

If you want a temporary fix talcum powder works without knackering the belt.

But if you can get under the car it's a five minute job to fix.
