Please help!

Going down the M4 last saturday the HICAS / battery / Lights and ANTI ROLL warning lights all came on at the same time and the Steering went Incredibly stiff. As I had only just got on the motorway I turned around at the next available junction and took it home. just as I got to my street the tempreture guage started to rise gradually so I parked it up straight away. I check the water level to make sure there was no leak the following day and that appeared fine. I booked it in to my local garage thinking it was something as simple as a power steering problem, something which they could have got sorted without any problems.

After a quick examination this morning they have informed me that the crank pulley is loose and belt flapping about. he then informed me that there could be internal damage to the engine. Thing is I had the cambelt replaced about 2000 miles ago, could this have anything to do with problem? I'm mighty pi$$ed off as I have spent over £2000 in the last few months and have only owned the car for 5 months!

What sort of damage could I be looking at with this problem?

Any help would be useful!

Cheers,

Dave.

Hi,Id imagine that the warning lights are a result of the crank pulley being loose.the drive belts to the altenator, and the power steering belts would have slipped.as for internal engine damage if you drove the car home then to the garage then probaly not.depends how hot the car got.if the front damper came off enough to let the cambelt ride off the crank sprocket then you may have had some damage.personally id get the cambelt checked.if they left the damper loose what else is??.have the drive belts refitted and try the car.with a bit of luck bud you may have got away with it.

As has been said it sounds like the pully was left loose or not torqued up properly, I would get back onto the garage that did the cambelt and start shouting.
