oops, sorry i know that isn't the convertible one, but its that series...

Ed

i have to admit i hate the older versions - they look like mk 1 MR2s (ok, well not that bad!!!). the later model RX7 however is a different story

Gen 2 convertable tubby II's are hard to get hold of in good condition. There were only 260 made for the uk market in a over 3 year period.

Proff (my hubbie) has one. We both love to drive them as they are converts they are hard to get over the 140mph with the top down wind drag and all that. Although we're driven ours at 143mph.

Turbo's are your bigest expense because when they go they ruin the rotor housings.

They smoke a little on starting this is due to the fact the rotory engine use's oil in it's petrol mix. But if they are smoking badly then the seals are going.

They weigh the same as my Zed due to being vert's.

They are easy to work on as you have plenty of room in the engine bay. The engine itself is a tiny wee thing lol.

They are quite easy to mod.

Want to know more or see one in action feel free to contact myself or Prof.

It's having a larger turbo upgrade at present.

You should check out Mazdarotaryclub.com (sorry for the plug), as there will be a lot more info over there on RX7's including the vert.

They are a lot of fun, and as the wife said, quite rare now - there were 360 made for the uk market, between 89 and 92, but many have succumbed to the breakers yard or tin worm - quite a few imports now take their place.

They share most mechanicals with the coupe version, and there are a lot of second hand parts available - so DIY repair is cheap

Watch out for the engines though - they need a rebuild from time to time depending on how much modding has been done and how their driven.

Like the Z - this is a car that should be given a good workout, but let it warm up / cool down as well - not just for the turbo's sake, but the engine will seal better when warm.

Get one with a recently rebuilt engine if you can, and make sure you get history with it as with any car.

Stock this cars weighs in at 1500 Kg (similar to 300zx TT), and have 200BHP - so a little slower than the Zed, but the small single turbo and rotary means the engine spools up more quickly. With good modding these cars easily make over 300BHP - you can get 260+ from just ditching the cats and putting a decent air intake on it - after that you must spend money :)

fuel economy sucks - heavy right foot will get you 15MPG - but it's fun.

Mine is in the menders at the mo - getting ported and snorted - so wifey is my chaufer now ! :p

BTW - the on on eBay is the coupe version - which weighs about 230 KG less
