I've bought some component speakers to replace my stock (?) kenwood ones. Anyway since I now have tweeters I'm guessing I need some extra wire to connect those to the crossovers.

What I'm wondering though is...

Is car speaker wire different to home speaker wire? i.e. the type you might buy to extend the distance that your speakers can be placed away from your stereo.

Also do I really need to replace the existing wire?

Thanks in advance.

It neveer hurts to uprade to some new wire bud and iv'e used household wire before bud and not had no problems, but you must make sure that it can take the power you are going to put through it. Remember though that car audio is at 4ohm and household is generally on 8ohm.

Speaker wire is speaker wire. Do not worry if you are using household as long as you are not fitting amplifiers etc. If you are simply extending what is there just try to get similar size cable or avoid going smaller.

so for a standard change of speakers and no amp would home stereo wire be fine?

Cheers for the reply.
