Arr well, it only failed on two rear tyres (I was expecting it anyway) and the near side headlamp aim out (also not able to adjust)

So the headlamp will be removed tomorrow for investigation and I've just orded two new Toyo tyres for £152 delivered :D

 

Retest is a week on Friday (MOT expiry a week on Saturday!!)

 

Oh yeah, and a couple of advisories.... Both the rear steering arms with slight play!! Gona have to get it in for further examination.

headlight adjuster is an easy one mate, has a plastic cog on the inside that usually cracks and can be replaced by some model car cogs made of metal which will last better or take the high beam adjuster and swap it to the duff main beam adjuster.

VOSA regulation states that a re-test takes one hour, so the MOT stations can not book anymore MOT's in in that hour (depending on how many they have the ability for) so as the garage's now loose money, then most of them will charge (if not ALL) That's if they are on the new computerised system, if not then you could be lucky ;)

As far as I'm aware they can't dodge the system, as to get a valid MOT cert, then it HAS to be on the computer, if it's on the computer, then it takes one hour = £50!!!

mot prices have just gone up to £50 :xxx: if you go back within 10 days then you only have to pay half fee of £20

theres no time stated for carrying out a test, you could do one car in 1/2 an hour easily and have a banger take well over an hour.

 

the garages have always been able to charge a retest fee but most didnt incase they lost buisness, they are now using computerisation as an excuse for something they should have always been doing. and you may find this next bit interesting in your case.

 

If the vehicle is brought back to the same Testing Station by the end of the next working day for one or more of the following items only, a partial re-examination is again required and this re-examination is also free:

 

Bonnet, boot lid, brake pedal anti-slip, direction indicators, doors, dropsides, fuel filler cap, hazard warning, horn, lamps, loading door, mirrors, rear reflectors, registration plates, seatbelts (but not anchorages), seats, sharp edges or projections, steering wheel, tailboard, tailgate, vehicle identification number (VIN), windscreen and glass, windscreen wipers/washers, wheels* and tyres*.

Its really crap what they can do with regards to mot's.

 

Last time I had mine done it failed and I took it away and bought it back 3 days later, they fixed the problems and re-tested it and tried to charge me. I told them that I was told I wouldn't have to pay for a re-test so they left it. This was around last feb though for my fiesta. If its changed then I'm not looking forwards to it.

Well the headlamp adjusting problem is now solved :D I happen to have another good quality spare, so I've used that. I've checked all the other adjusters and they all work well, but I think they'll all need setting up properly now, as I think I've fooked all the positions up :rofl:

OK bud, things can sometimes be taken the wrong way on here ;)

It's OK anyway, as I've said I've already sorted the headlamp adjuster and was expecting the tyres to fail so already had the funds to sort that and a few other things that might of turned up. :D Just hope that the tyres turn up when they are supposed to (next Tuesday) so I can get them fitted in time for the re-test on Friday.
