Hello!,

My auto gearbox has a problem it seem to seize up in a way? when I reverse, not sure whats going on might be on its way out but first I am going to change the gear oil if anyone can help on what auto gear oil to use and how I would go about changing it? and where do I drain and fill up again?

I wont be able to answer until late tonight when I finish work...

Its an 1991 uk spec TT Auto.

I just hope the box has a bit of dirt inside and changing the gear oil sorts it out??

If not how much and where can I get a cheap used box??

was thinkin,how do u check yr grearbox oil??????,hope u didnt make the same mistake i did????,i checked mine with the engine off and thats a big no no,you hav to hav the engine running up to temp and in p or n,i had 2 marks on the stick cold and hot,somewhere in the middle i did mine,i ended up puttin 2LTRS of oil to get it right,lucky i dont use my car much or something serous wood hav happened,i used dexron3,got to do a full change soon and its a nightmare,not got a ramp so axle stands and a stiff neck lol,hope it helps bud :)

basically i always run my car up to temp and make sure my gearbox is fully warm and check the oil when running in "p" that way the torque converter is fully loaded with fluid.

I shall give it a go in the week and hopefully will sort the problem out??

I have just checked oil properly and found that its very low only just touching the dipstick going to top her up later and hope the probs are sorted!!
