more f***ing problems

Well I suppose after almost two years of happy daily motoring things are going to start to go west.

It looks like my starter motor is now playing up, when turning the key it sometimes makes a terrible noise and smoke starts coming from the top right hand side of the engine (looking from the front). Is this a case of its fooked? Anyone know how much for a new one or would a second hand one do the job? Are there any differences between the different models (auto/man, LWB,SWB etc).

Second problem, my HICAS light came on a couple of week ago and today (yes I know) I filled up with ATF. I stuck it in the round thing at the front left of the engine (looking from front) now the light is off when I start her but as soon as I turn the wheel the light comes back on. Do you think air has got in the system or is it something else.

Sorry for rant, but a little pissed.

Cheers all, thanks in advance for the help

See ya

Martin

There is a massive rip off with starters and alternators. A few years back the bloke at my local car shop use to repair/recon them in his back room for a few quid, Its not very expensive to replace the insides, now he has gone and all the new people will do is get you an exchange unit which can be over 100 squid sometimes. So even if its just the bushes or somethin thats gone you get charged a fortune. I would ask at a few small accesorie shops/garages and see if they can point you to someone who can fix yours.

Martin, HICAS light? could just be you need the steering wheel adjusting slightly bud. Spindle might be out by a fraction that signals the HICAS. wink.gif

Hi Martin,

Sorry to hear you are having strife mate frown.gif

You could try the HICAS Diag, its a friggin pularva but you do this: http://www.ttzd.com/tech/hicastech.html

If the spindle/steering wheel were off alignment it would probably show up by; OFF HICAS light/long straight motorway driving for 20mins/HICAS light ON.

Also: check these and other pipes for loose connections:

Try starting the engine and taking off the resovoir cap and turning full lock both ways a few times and then putting the cap back on..

Could also be a dicky steering angle sensor....

tooooo much shit can go wrong with these figgin cars frown.gif
