direct line insurance

Got my car insured with Direct Line about a month ago and they said that they insured import cars the same as uk spec cars. I checked this 3 times on seperate phone calls and all said the same.

But when the certificate came through it didn't mention anything about an import, so i thought i should just write it on to make sure.

Now the gits write back and say they want another 102 quid.

So you guys insured with them aswell might just want to check (or not as the case maybe).

Try following the advice here: http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm

Next time you speak to them, you may want to mention that you plan to complain to the Insurance Ombudsman and see if they change their tune. They may decide to drop the charge if they realise you aren't just going to take it lying down.

They'll probably have tapes of your conversations with them, so it should be easy enough to prove what you told them, if it comes to that.

Don't let the b*stards get away with it!

I had almost the same happen with Admiral. I got two email quotes, each time I told them the car was an import. On the final conversation when it came to paying the money they claimed that they hadn't realised and whacked the price up 10%.

It's one thing doing that before they charge your card, but it's not on to charge you and then ask for more cash, even if they did make a mistake.

try theinsurancecentre.co.uk

this is definately the best qoute ive had.

i have 3 years ncb , and i'm 30

the quote was £800 fully comp

you should all try it it beat my best quote by £500

Agreed, but they would have done that had I not been so insistent. Basically, the quote was so good I just didn't believe it. Aside from that they have been fine though.

Had exactly the same happen to me.

I spoke to Direct Line on several seperate occasions asking them what type of security device I would need to fit. Each time they advised a Cat 1 which I duly fitted. Then came the paperwork that said because it was an import I would need to fit a Tracker security device, great £300 down the swanny I thought. mad.gifI spoke to them and tried to explain but they wouldn't listen so I sent them a snotty letter saying their telephone staff needed to be better educated, their level of service was unacceptable and I would never use them again.

Did no good but boy it made me feel better..

Got a cheaper quote in the end anyway biggrin.gif
