Hello everyone,

Im looking for some advice, basically im looking at getting into drifting a 300zx. I've spoken to a chap on driftworks saying that there not that good for it, he has just sold his in favour of a skyline though.

I much prefer the looks of the 300zx though, but i just want to make sure im making the right decision before i go spending lots of money on one?

Opinions please folks.

Welcome :)

Unfortunately he is right - the Z isn't really a very good drift car...

Considered a 200? or is that what everybody else drifts in?

welcome, they will cost a few quid, to buy and then maintain, thats before you drift, but no doubt well worth getting one.

there are much better drift cars around...none look as good as a zed tho!!

the silvias are good drift cars along with the 200sx's. im currently trying to convince a mate to let me and him strip his s13 200sx so i can weld it up and spray it so we can take it on track days etc. hes not having it tho lol even tho he has just been "given" an audi a4!!!

Oh you can definately drift the Z, But the one simple reason people don't use them is the cost.

When drifting the engine is kept running at High Revs generating a lot of heat, not a problem when you get cool air being forced in driving in a straight line, but drifting is very short circuit and would require a Lot of money being invested in aftermarket cooling modifications, and thats before you've spent on upping the basic set-up to get to dirift spec. The stock gearbox also may not like it for long...

The 200sx's (whatever model you prefer) are more simple straight lined engines which are simple to work on, cheaper for parts and even with just the BPU are great fun to learn in and work your way into the sport.

But yes The Z has the looks ;)

I don't have a problem drifting in my Zed.

Thanks for the comments.

Ive just sold a 200sx S14, after drifing it for 4 months, i realised it wasnt the car for me.

Cost isn't too much of an issue, dont get me wrong, im not loaded, i just do all the work myself, so its only the cost of purchasing parts.

Z32King, do you go drifting on track or just do a bit of street?? What sort of suspension/Diff setup do you use??

Ive seen a couple of TT manuals quite close to me for sale, so i may have to see them, Ive also driven a NA manual, i was extreamly suprised how well it drifted, albeit with its stock LSD which was useless at anything over 40mph and stock suspension, but it certainly had enough bottom end power.

Is there any or the midland guys near me, that are into drifting??

Im in South Leicester.

Cheers Si
